#Thread | A recent thread attempting to exonerate #Churchill of war crimes in India and Bengal has caused a stir.
It seems to skirt the blame on Japan or enemies of the empire and even attempts to make absurd & sensationalist remarks to gain traction. @AndreasKoureas_

While reading the thread, it was tough to find responsible quotes that could counter the widely held opinion that it was Churchill, his policies, and his 'hate' for India that led to millions dying in Bengal in the 1940s.
2/16
It's easy to take the "As someone who has read through thousands of pages of primary sources" route, but a better alternative would be to first critique Churchill's Secret War and spend time and effort in doing that.
3/16
Perhaps reading another book like "Hungry Bengal" by Janam Mukherjee would be a good learning lesson before tweeting a thread with absurdities.
4/16
It's rather sensible to read about agriculture in colonial India, revenue policies in Bengal, and a lot that was going on before October 16, 1942.
5/16
The administration was informed a couple of months before the cyclone that they were faced with a rice famine in Bengal. Further, the cyclone passed 'over the Districts of Midnapore and Twenty-Four Parganas.'

Is Japanese presence and defeating Churchill's Britain in #Burma a defense of 'Scorched Earth' policy? Or denial policies?

The allied war brought troops into Bengal leading to government procurement of food grains, hoarding, etc. - all for Churchill's wars and as a consequence of his leadership.
It's rather telling that in this battle against Japan who sided with Hitler, Churchill was fine with millions dying of starvation. By saying that he was uninformed, you actually tell us about his priorities.
9/16
Since August 1942, when famine was voiced out, it took a year before the 'Statesman' Churchill learnt of 'severe famine.' How many had died by then?
10/16
Further, the allies capture Burma about two years later. Where did the aid come from? And if that could be done then, it could have been done earlier too. A case of too little too late?!?
11/16
Researchers who have scored through many thousands of pages and literature may explore it well.
12/16
Bring a bit of science into your analysis.
A study by Vimal Mishra @vmishraiit analyzed a soil moisture database cover the years 1870 to 2016 to reconstruct agricultural droughts.
13/16
The 1943 famine was the only one of the six major famines from 1870-2016 that was not soil-moisture related. The onus of which lies on Prime Minister Churchill.
14/16
Perhaps, if Birla's interaction with Churchill could be used as an argument for the latter's 'actual' view on India, a million deaths due to scorched earth policy stand as a larger testimony to what he stood for!
15/16
In conclusion, a detailed critique of Janam Mukherjee's book would be much more informative than a thread full of absurdities.
AAP Convener and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s propaganda attempt falls flat. Here is what happened.
#Thread 🧵
Little after 8:30 am on Thursday, Kejriwal tweeted a link of ABP blog by one Hari Shankar Joshi titled: “AAP सरकार की योजनाओं से दिल्ली के हर व्यक्ति हो हुआ औसतन 30 लाख का फायदा और ये जुमला नहीं है।” It was an opinion piece. Except, within hours, the said article could not be accessed. 1/n
It threw error 404 that no records were found and ABP expressed regret that the page we were trying to access had no data. ABP had removed the said opinion piece without any information or acknowledgement. Netizens, too, pointed out how ABP removed the article almost as soon as Kejriwal posted it. 2/n
Interesting #Thread 🧵on alleged India Today journalist Rajdeep Sardesai (@sardesairajdeep) and his biased reporting on #MaharashtraElections2024, which he terms as “Bimaru state”
Rajdeep Sardesai once again jumps into the India Today debate with his propaganda over watering down infrastructural developments by Mahayuti in Maharashtra.
According to him, voters should “move away” from seeing Maharashtra through its “lengths and breadths” 1/n
But clearly, it's the “lengths and breadths” of Maharashtra which has made it one of the premier destinations of investment. Infrastructural developments like Atal Setu Bridge, Mumbai Coastal Road, Mumbai Metro Aqua line and Expressways in the state, which has reduced the traffic congestion and reduced time travel for common citizens.

Ex-RAW official Vikash Yadav has been declared ‘wanted’ by the United States’ FBI accusing him of being involved in the alleged assassination plot of Sikhs For Justice terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
While the US has not provided any evidence to back the allegations, some Indian opposition leaders are pre-maturely passing the judgement as they raise questions about their own country and government!
A Thread 🧵👇
TMC MP Sagarika Ghose — continuing her agenda of questioning the Indian government against foreign forces — raises questions as to why the Indian government is not behaving like a country who follows rules-based order.
Without any info she directly raises aspersions of ex-RAW official being made a ‘fall guy’. Is this how an MP should behave?

TMC MP Saket Gokhale feels India has faced ‘international embarrassment’ due to this issue and demanded immediate resignations of NSA Ajit Doval and HM Amit Shah. 2/n
A few days back as Congress was releasing its manifesto for Haryana polls, one individual was conspicuous by her absence. Yes, we are talking of Haryana’s tallest Dalit leader Kumari Shelja. And if that was not enough, the Sirsa MP Shelja is still out of action from the electoral scene and the party think tank admits that her prolonged absence from the campaign was a cause of worry.
With Hooda father & son duo now calling the shots in Haryana Congress, Kumari Shelja has been feeling sidelined for quite some time. Her first outburst against state Congress leadership was revealed during the exit of Kiran Choudhry & her daughter Shruti Choudhry from Congress some time back. Shelja had then openly acknowledged that justice was not done to Shruti Choudhry. Shruti was a claimant to the Congress ticket for Bhiwani Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat during recent general elections, which was denied to her at the behest of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who gave the ticket to one of his loyalists instead. Kiran & Shruti, who come from Late CM Bansi Lal’s clan though later joined BJP.
Even Kumari Shelja’s supporters are irked with Congress leadership in the state. The recent incident where an individual at a meeting in Narnaund Assembly segment used the casteist slur on Kumari Shelja has infuriated her supporters. Though Bhupinder Hooda strongly condemned the remarks and Hansi police registered a case against the individual under sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the damage has already been done.
Congratulations Atishi Marlena, as you’re all set to become the new CM of Delhi – as a gift, The Pamphlet will be giving a background detail on your family.
@AtishiAAP's family — Tripta Wahi (mother) & Vijay Singh (Father) have grave anti-national credentials.

Mercy petition for Afzal Guru: Tripta Wahi was the convener of the committee that wanted Afzal Guru to be free of charges & Vijay Singh was a member too. Alongwith many liberals, they signed this mercy petition to President of India which seeked to set aside the punishment given to terrorist Afzal Guru.
In the attached video you can see Tripta Wahi giving a statement in favour of Afzal Guru.

Condemned the Judiciary after the Hanging of Afzal Guru: A year after the hanging of Afzal Guru, Tripta Wahi in a public meeting said that “Even the judiciary failed us on which we always believed. Every democratic institution failed us. After the attack, suddenly the Indian nationalism and Hindu Nationalism got together and made impossible for any human rights’ voices to be heard.”
