#DePIN is NOT a $3.5 trillion market ❌

It is MUCH bigger.

Here’s my 3-minute-thake.

2/ Background 📅

Last January, @messari’s @Oldsamster published the first #DePIN sector map, including these 4 sectors;

Servers $1tn
Wireless $2.3tn
Sensors $30.5bn
Energy $146bn

= total market by 2028 +/- $3.5tn. Huge.

Below are 5 reasons why I think it’s even bigger.

3/ Mobility is the 5th #DePIN sector 🚘

#Mobility spans the 4 domains of land, sea, sky & (future) space.

It is 1) is physical infrastructure and 2) can be community sourced/funded.

@Uber alone has a cap of +/- $60bn today.

Many mobility #DePINs already exist, ex. @BloXmove.

4/ Sensor Sector addressable by #DePINs will be > than $30.5 billion 🌐

Incoming: 100 trillion+ (!) connected #IoT sensors by 2030 🚀

By 2028:

- Global Environment Monitoring market --> $29bn+
- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) --> $60bn+

5/ Energy Sector addressable by #DePINs will be larger than $146.5billion🔋

I would at least add the Electric Vehicle Charging Market, an $80bn market according to #DePIN @charge_xyz ⚡️

6/ #DePIN Layer1s 🏔

#DePIN-focused Layer1s should be part of the sector map as long as they’re truly DePIN-focused (not just any general purpose L1)

Decentralized digital infrastructure networks for decentralized physical infrastructure networks.

Ex: @peaqnetwork / @iotex_io

7.1/ Emerging #Web3 Markets 📊

The projections so far are what we might call ‘Web2 projections’. They look at current projections & then assume Web3 can become the underlying infrastructure.

This doesn’t consider that as we make the Web2 → Web3 shift, new markets will emerge.

7.2/ Example 🚜

Today we think of Vertical Farms as a traditional venture.

In Web3, autonomous robots, machines & devices will handle everything from seed to mouth, and we’ll be adding Agriculture to the #DePIN map.

There are plenty similar examples of all shapes and sizes.

8/ The Multiplier Effect ❌

Example: Imagine how projections for the vehicle/ ride sharing markets increases once energy storage/ vehicle charging #DePINs are established.

+ this doesn't even take into account efficiency increases #AI will bring via projects like @Fetch_ai.

9/ Wrapping Up 🫔

I'm convinced it's the real-world (not the #metaverse) that's going to take crypto to new heights and make #Web3 not just something people can't ignore, but something we all WANT because it makes things cheaper, more efficient, more convenient, and more secure.

I wouldn’t be writing this if @Oldsamster hadn’t taken the initiative to 1) establish a name for the sector, uniting us behind one battle cry, and 2) published the first #DePIN sector map.

That was a quick-thake.

In truth, it’s impossible to put a number on it, not without a Deep-Thought-style AGI, anyway.

But I do believe it’s fair to say it’s larger than $3.5 trillion.
