Petitioner: Orphans are the most vulnerable of the society. Lot of lacunae in the existing laws. Because these children have no parents, government is their parent.
Respondent: There are a lot of schemes for orphan children and children in general. But they're asking for according a particular caste or religion. That might not be. If a child has not experienced that kind of discrimination, they shouldn't be opened to it.
CJI DY Chandrachud: Ms Madhavi Divan states that UOI will file an affidavit with diverse schemes of government for orphans. Petitioner states that mission Vatsalya scheme can be updated, for which purpose she has concerte suggestions. Petitioner shall submit her suggestions.
