Law Minister Kiren Rijiju to shortly speak at an event organized by the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa for distribution of E-Filing units to 385 Bar Associations in the state.
These e-filing units comprising a computer, printer scanner and other equipment are being distributed in view of HC's decision to make e-filing compulsory for all courts.
Patil: This is the first occasion where Maharashtra, a state that always leads the country, under our 25 member team, has decided to distribute the laptops etc to 384 Bar Associations.
Patil - The Bar Council is also sensitive about the social issues. Not only BCI but many bar associations have also issued statements about same sex marriage
Adv. Devidas Pangam, Goa AG - Though the Bar Council is for Goa and Maharashtra, the representation of Goa is minimal. There should be reservation for lawyers from Goa in the BCMG
Advocate General Birendra Saraf -Technology has given new meaning to common place words. It will make justice more accessible as a person sitting in a village can hear his SC case, it will help students..
ASG Anil Singh - We are proud of this Bar Council as it is organising many programs for eg. Basic Legal Education Program, distributing Civil and Criminal Law handbooks to 50,000 new lawyers
Singh: One request that if there is a scheme approved by states or centre, the lawyers should be consulted. Unless lawyers are taken into confidence, no scheme in India will succeed.
Advocate Jayant Jaibhave, BCMG Member - The main criticism against the legal system is the delay in deciding cases. Whatever the reason, it happens. Rs. 7000 Cr is allocated in budget for modernization of the judiciary. But how to achieve that modernization?
Jaibhave: This scheme is a step towards that. We will not just provide the machines, but also technical persons for operating those machines. Today also training for 6 hours has happened.
Rijiju: Pendency is increasing and e-filing is the solution. The biggest litigant in India is the Government. If we do our work properly, the pendency will automatically decrease
Rijiju: I appreciate PM Modiji for allocating 7000 Cr towards the technology in judiciary
Rijiju: The BCMG is a leader in this regard. I am inspired by Lord Buddha for peace and non-violence is Lord Buddha. But when it is a matter of right, I want to do things fearlessly. That comes from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Rijiju: Our courts were functioning even in the pandemic lockdown. The doors of justice were not closed
Rijiju: There's another thing very close to my heart. Why shouldn't we use Indian languages in courts? 5 HCs are using Hindi. We have instant translation and transcription
Rijiju: We should think in Indian languages. Just because someone knows English, they will take higher fees? Many lawyers, won't take names, they take 2 lakhs, 3 lakhs, per hearing
Rijiju: Know all foreign languages, but thoughts should be Indian whether you have studied from Oxford, Harvard
Rijiju: There should be more women in the judiciary. Collegium should take initiative to include more women in the judiciary as well as collegium
Rijiju: For Disctrict courts infrastructure, Modi ji has allotted 9000 crores. The development is delayed. We want it to improve as soon as possible
Rijiju: I have been asked why the Law Ministry governs law colleges. I want to inform you that NLUs are opened via Acts of the state. They are passed in the state legislatures
Rijiju: Independence of judiciary cannot be seen in isolation. There has to be independence of executiva and independence of the legislature. Our constitution has separation of powers
Rijiju: Since Modiji has become PM we have not done anything to undermine the judiciary. The legislature and judiciary have to change according to times
Rijiju: The supreme court and high court bar associations work closely with the courts. I want that the courts should also work equally closely with the Bar Council. They should be consulted for any project
Rijiju: We are opening the roads to arbitration and mediation to young lawyers. We want India to become the hub of arbitration. Why only in India? We want lawyers to practice arbitration and mediation globally
Rijiju: Most important is that the people's lives should be eased. The government should only interfere in the personal lives of the common man to help, nothing else. That's why we have decriminalised many things #KirenRijiju#EFiling#EkanthShinde#DevendraFadnavis#BCMG
Rijiju: There are a lot of debates going on. We should see what direction it's going in. When someone says the judiciary is getting weak they are attacking the democracy of India
Rijiju: Many are creating a narrative that Govt is weakening the judiciary. They are going abroad and saying this. The liberal group that is actually most illiberal
Rijiju: This is detrimental to development. Democracy will be strong only when the judiciary is independent. It is independent. It cannot be made weak
