Lawyers and faith organisations have lodged a complaint with the Bar Standards Board claiming Suella Braverman, a qualified barrister, has breached the body’s code of conduct with “racist sentiments and discriminatory narratives”.

theguardian.com/politics/2023/…
Nine organisations have written to the Bar Standards Board urging it to investigate and take action against what they claim is racist and inflammatory language used by the home secretary about British men of Pakistani heritage and asylum seekers.
The letter cites Braverman’s comment in April that grooming gang members were predominantly British-Pakistani men and “hold cultural values totally at odds with British values”.
The letter also raises Braverman’s “invasion” rhetoric, her claim that 100 MILLION asylum seekers would come to the UK were it not for her planned immigration crackdown, & her claim people crossing the Channel have values at odds with the UK & “heightened levels of criminality”.
“These comments are not only highly inaccurate & offensive, but they also perpetuate harmful stereotypes & contribute to a climate of hate & prejudice. As a member of the legal profession, Ms Braverman should be held to a high standard of professionalism & ethical conduct.”
“Her statements not only undermine the integrity of the legal profession, but they also have the potential to damage the reputation of the UK as a tolerant and inclusive society.”
The letter cites three specific Bar Council code of conduct rules it claims have been breached, including behaving in a way which is likely to diminish trust & confidence, & conduct which the public may reasonably perceive as undermining honesty, integrity or independence.
The other alleged breach of the Bar Council code of conduct rules is the instruction not to discriminate against any other person on the grounds of race, colour, ethnic or national origin or other grounds.
“It is crucial that members of the legal profession uphold the highest standards of integrity, impartiality, and professionalism. Ms Braverman’s comments are a clear violation of these standards and should not go unchallenged,” the letter concludes.
The signatories of the letter point out that in 2020 a Home Office-commissioned report found that the majority of child sexual offenders were white and that there was not enough evidence to suggest members of grooming gangs were more likely to be Asian.
The Migration Observatory isn't aware of any recent academic/official statistics examining criminality among refugees who had recently arrived in the UK: “there's little evidence that migrants are any more or less likely to commit crimes than any other members of the population”.
The letter adds: “It is our view that Ms Braverman’s comments incite violence against the British Pakistani and Muslim community as well as refugee communities, fuelling racist sentiments and discriminatory narratives.”

I totally agree.

#SackBraverman

On 1st March, 170 organisations deeply concerned about the fairness of the UK Government's Asylum Questionnaire process, wrote to the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, via a joint letter coordinated by the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association.

Low birthrate is UK’s top priority, Tory MP Miriam Cates tells right-wing National Conservatism conference in London; ‘Cultural Marxism’ & 'excessive education' are among factors causing existential threat! 🙋‍♂️ 🇬🇧

If it sounds *A LOT* like Fascism... 😬

The Edmund Burke Foundation 'think tank' was founded in 2000 & now has the aim of strengthening the principles of national conservatism in Western & other democratic countries". The global Christian National Conservatism project grew out of it. Its Chair is Yoram Hazony.
If you're not disturbed that this year's national Conservatism conference is being held in the heart of Westminster, & has attracted almost every hard-right culture war crank, conspiracy theorist, & swivel-eyed Tory in Britain, you're not paying attention.
The Edmund Burke Foundation has a very broad reach. Their conferences read like miniature Conservative Political Action Conferences (CPAC’s), bringing in figures from the right & far-right in Europe, with similar figures from the United States.

The (far)right-wing "Christian" National Conservatism (NatCon) conference is underway in London.

Imho, this is profoundly disturbing.

Their 'Statement of Principles' reads like a blueprint for the imposition of patriarchal, totalitarian theonomic states like #Gilead.
It's bankrolled by & ideologically aligned with libertarian billionaire Peter Thiel, who in 2009 said "I no longer believe that freedom & democracy are compatible", & who has funded far-right candidates peddling Trump’s lie that the US election was stolen.
National Conservatives are closeted authoritarians who believe in entwining church & state, using government to encourage childbearing, & ‘intervening energetically” to combat “immorality & dissolution” - think 'Christofascism', Viktor Oban, & Putin.

Keynote speaker at #NatCon, Heritage Foundation President: “Heritage’s position, to be really plain, is that marriage is between one man & one woman, full stop.” Asked if that means annulling existing same-sex marriages, he says “I hope so. That would be good for civil society.” Image
What follows is a summary #THREAD of the 'Statement of Principles' offered by 'National Conservatism', a Christian nationalist project of the Edmund Burke Foundation - a lobbying 'institute' founded in 2019 with the aim of strengthening the principles of national conservatism".

Welfare officials failed to properly identify the risk of harm to Errol Graham, a severely mentally ill man whose disability benefit payments they cut off and who died of starvation eight months later, an official report has found.

theguardian.com/politics/2023/…
An independent safeguarding review into the “shocking & disturbing” events leading to Errol’s tragic & lonely death concluded that multiple failings by the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP), his GP practice, & social landlord meant that chances to save him were missed.
In the months before his death, his disability benefits were stopped, triggering the automatic cancellation of his housing benefit, pushing him into £1,000 in rent arrears. It also led to the disconnection of his gas supplies, and moves to evict him. 💔 🤬

The Conservative Democratic Organisation (CDO), gathering in Bournemouth on Saturday, insists it is not a Johnson-revivalist group, despite almost every speaker – among them Priti Patel, Jacob Rees-Mogg & Nadine Dorries – being a noted Johnson supporter.

theguardian.com/politics/2023/…
David Campbell Bannerman launched the CDO in December alongside banker & Tory peer, Peter Cruddas.

Senior Tory insiders, concerned at what they see as a party within a party, are alarmed that former Ukip donor Arron Banks held discussions with Cruddas about the CDO’s work.
Banks told friends he was “helping” Johnson with a potential comeback by using his database to “reach out” to local Conservative associations.
