This week, Scotland has reported:

🔵 606 new cases (down 27%)
🔴 30 new deaths (down 33%)
🟡 207 hospital inpatients (down 26%)
🟠 2 ICU inpatients

So another drop in reported cases!

We're actually averaging under 100 new cases a day now, for the first time since August 2020! Although of course that is largely a result of low testing levels. ImageImageImageImage
The latest wastewater figures show that the levels there are still low (the lowest in nearly two years), although it does look like there has been a slight increase during the first week of May.

The hospital occupancy (or 'Currently In Hospital') figures had a change in their methodology this week.

Previously, a Covid-19 patient who has yet to be discharged from hospital would stop being counted as a Covid-19 patient after 28 days. This has now been cut to 10 days. Image
I think that figure is supposed to show the number of people in hospital with the virus who are currently infectious, rather than just the number of people in hospital because of issues caused by the virus.

So I think for that definition, the change makes sense.
The change applies to the 8th of May onwards. It cut out around 250 patients, so there is a pretty big drop in the chart!

Also, the equivalent ICU figures don't appear to have been updated for this week. Image
The figures showing new hospital and ICU admissions because of the virus were updated as normal though, with both continuing to show a downward trend! ImageImage
The number of new deaths reported from the virus was thankfully down, for the fourth week in a row!

Excess deaths were also down by quite a bit this week, and slightly into the negative. Although the Coronation bank holiday weekend likely impacted reporting here. ImageImageImageImage
And lastly, here are some of the most recent vaccination figures from the Spring Booster Dose rollout!

Around 65% of those aged 75 and above have had their booster now, along with just over a quarter of those with a weakened immune system.

After three years, and 800 updates, today marks the final time I'll be updating the Scotland Coronavirus Tracker.

Thank you so much to everyone for all of the support and encouragement over that time. Being able to run this page for so long has been the honour of my life 🥹
The data, of course, will still be released.

The 'Weekly national respiratory infection and COVID-19 statistical report' from PHS includes most of the data for Scotland on it.

On the page below you can view the figures in a report, or on a dashboard.

It is released each Thursday. I like the report as it gives a nice clear overview of the situation!

To dive further into the data, the dashboard is nice too. And to see more death figures, you'll want to visit the NRS page below (also each Thursday).

This week, the UK has reported:

🔵 8,858 new cases (down 20%)
🔴 367 new deaths (down 31%)
🟡 4,201 hospital inpatients (down 14%)
🟠 95 ICU/Ventilation inpatients (down 10%)

Here are some additional case figures!

Reported case rates are still mostly falling throughout the UK, and across the planet as a whole. Although of course, a large part of that is due to a reduction in testing. ImageImageImageImage
The hospital figures are falling across the UK too!

Here are some of the hospital admission figures for England. It has been a lot of up and down over 2022/2023, but the rates right now are some of the lowest they've been throughout that period. Image

From the Coronavirus Infection Survey, the estimated number of people in each nation who had Covid-19 during the latest week was:

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England: 1 in 40
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland: 1 in 40
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales: 1 in 40
🍀 Northern Ireland: 1 in 70

There was no update for Northern Ireland this week (although their figures for last week were adjusted a little).

So the figures shown on the page for Northern Ireland are still just for last week, and their trends don't go as far along as the rest of the UK.
And due to a lower number of samples, the figures for this week also have a higher degree of uncertainty to them than normal.

But from what is available, there were increases in England (particularly the North West / East Midlands / South East), Scotland, and Wales.

This week, Scotland has reported:

🔵 2,694 new cases (up 26%)
🔴 56 new deaths (down 13%)
🟡 1,231 hospital inpatients (up 26%)
🟠 5 ICU inpatients (up 25%)

So quite a large jump in reported cases this week, across most age groups and council areas.

The number of new tests reported also increased again. I wasn't sure if we'd see many more increases like this at this point, with testing access so limited.
Deaths from the virus were thankfully down a little bit this week.

Although excess deaths were unfortunately up, and were 12% above average for this time of the year. That is the highest they've been since the middle of January.

So a pretty big fall in Scotland, but not too much change in England/Wales/Northern Ireland.

Within England, rates are only currently rising in the North West and Yorkshire & The Humber regions. They're highest in the North East, but rates there have stopped increasing now. ImageImage
And looking at age groups within England, it is a bit up and down again. It is only the 70+ group that has consistently stayed on the same trend, and rates there are currently the highest by quite a distance, sadly.

Yesterday I had the honour of attending Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II's funeral at Westminster Abbey.

It is hard to put the experience into words. At times it felt like a momentous celebration of her life, and at other times it was just a really somber goodbye.
I was invited along with 182 others because I was a recipient of an MBE in this year's Queens Birthday Honours.

I will forever be grateful to the Royal Family for inviting me to be a part of such an important occasion, and allowing me to pay my respects to such a special person.
Like most, I had never met the Queen. But she was always there as a constant, calm presence in my life.

Whether speaking to us through her annual Christmas messages, or in times of crisis, she was always there to provide comfort, soothe our minds, and help guide us forward.
