Arnab Goswami tenders his unconditional apology before the Delhi High Court in a 2016 contempt case moved by former Executive Vice Chairman of TERI R.K. Pachauri.
Goswami was with Times Now when the case was filed in 2016.
“I hereby tender my apology to this Hon'ble Court and request that this Hon'ble Court may graciously be pleased to accept the apology and close the proceedings against the deponent,” reads his affidavit dated April 28.
The response further adds that he is a law abiding and a respectable citizen of the country, hold all courts in high esteem and have the highest respect for the Delhi High Court.
“I had no intention to commit any act/ omission amounting to disobedience much less, wilful disobedience of the orders of this Court.…. The alleged broadcasts were made as part of fair reporting under Article 19(1)(a) of Constitution” the response reads.
During the proceedings on April 29, Goswami’s counsel handed over the copy of the affidavit to the court.
The court then listed the case for hearing on May 22. The order of the said date has not been uploaded yet. However, status of the case shows that it has been disposed of.
Pachauri, who expired in the year 2020, had filed the plea contending that the media houses were in contempt of two orders of the court which asked them to adhere to “journalistic norms” in reporting about the proceedings of an inquiry against him.
Apart from Goswami, who was then an editor-in-chief of Times Now, the plea was also filed against Bennet & Coleman, The Economic Times, Raghav Ohri and Prannoy Roy.

ACMM Vaibhav Mehta of Rouse Avenue Courts partly allowed #RahulGandhi’s application seeking no objection for issuance of fresh ordinary passport to him for 10 years, after he surrendered his diplomatic passport on being disqualified as a Member of Parliament.
The application was moved by Gandhi in the National Herald case filed by former MP Subramanian Swamy against him. He and his mother Sonia Gandhi were granted bail in the case in December 2015. However, the court had not put any condition regarding travel on him.
Senior Advocate Parag Tripathi appearing for RBI said that the RBI’s recent decision is not demonetisation and is only an exercise of currency management. He suggested that the matter be heard on a later date as judgment has already been reserved in similar PIL.
On the other hand, it is the petitioner’s case that RBI has no independent power under RBI Act to take such decision. The PIL has been filed by advocate Rajneesh Bhaskar Gupta.
