Oregon Health Authority is buying 3500 *2nd* air purifiers for classrooms! Yes, that’s right. Portland already has 1 HEPA purifier in each learning space. Now they are adding 2, for spaces that need to get closer to 5-6 ACH.
3/ Note that Portland Public Schools *already had 1 HEPA air purifier installed* in every room, BEFORE the Aug. ‘21 engineering report. Also note the certified engineering stamps on each report.
Check out the detail in charts & ACH values with & without HEPA! ⬇️ (see Alt text)
4/ These reports were revealed & investigated further by @Oregonian in May ‘22 with a scathing article criticizing the district for not acting on these reports.
25% of Portland classrooms do not meet the 3 ACH target, even *with HEPA*; need more!
5/ In the @Oregonian article ⬆️, you can click on their interactive page to read each Portland school’s engineering report & see what your child’s classroom ACH rating is. They even summarize it for simplicity.
Note that the investigation is from last May, 2022. Since then @CDCgov is recommending 5 ACH for all indoor spaces & ASHRAE is proposing 8 ACH for classrooms.
See a family’s testimonial from Rosa Parks School, Portland, OR, too.
“By removing commonly worn masks, a room with two hourly air changes would need eight total air changes to offer the same protection, @CorsIAQ said.”
More below:
8/ The Oregonian investigation article also noted that good indoor air quality has advantages beyond reducing C19 transmission, such as those listed below.
Note that this is said in May, 2022, *before* the disastrous “tripledemic” fall term that hit North America, including BC.
9/ Fast forward 1 year to now, May 2023.
After much advocacy, Oregon Health Authority agrees to purchase 3500 more HEPA for Portland Public Schools, to supplement the 1 HEPA already in place, for rooms that need it.
10/ So far, Oregon (pop’n 4.2 million) has bought 18,704 HEPA purifiers for schools.
Compare this to BC’s measly 1,914 HEPA purifiers (BC pop’n 5.4 million). That’s over 12 times more HEPA in Oregon vs. BC, when pop’n is taken into account!
In BC:
- HEPA only given to classrooms w/o mechanical ventilation
- zero authenticated engineering reports of airflow; no reports of ACH per classroom
- @CDCofBC even refuses HEPA donations!
Abysmal.
12/ Why is it so important that BC catch up in the #CleanAir revolution in schools?
Last fall was disastrous for kids & illnesses. Flu, RSV, C19. Authorities blamed “immunity debt”, since debunked. More & more studies point to immune harm from C19 instead.
3/ @BCschoolCovid fields emails & texts from parents & teachers from all over BC. Here is what they are seeing (in a reply to @realreporter’s tweet above):
2/ “Protect our Province BC calls for the immediate resignation of Dr. Henry and a review of the entire leadership of BC Public Health, who have participated either directly or indirectly in the deception with regards to Covid infection risks in schools.”
2/ 2 of the authors, Dr. Jennifer Grant & Dr. Martha Fulford, are from the #UrgencyOfNormal group. It advocates for schools to be open without protections, saying Omicron is mild, even though it hospitalized & killed more kids in 8 mo than 2 years prior!
3/ The Urgency of Normal “toolkit” has been criticized by experts before.
"It's just simply, here is the conclusion we've come to, and here is the argument we would use in favor of this conclusion. And I think it's flawed ... start to finish," says @MarkWKlineMD1.
2) A court challenge in Alberta for the govt to reveal justifications for removing mask protections in schools, revealed that AB gov’s OWN DATA showed that masks reduce COVID-19 cases in schools & in community (less hospitalizations too), yet gov removed masks anyway!
