On the newest episode of the #HoosLeft podcast, I welcome our good friend @LinearRadio back to the show for an early look at the state of the 2024 races for Senate and Governor in #Indiana.
We start with the Senate race and have a look at @RepJimBanks, a Jan 6 seditionist, bully, perjurer, and founder of the ridiculously stupid "anti-woke caucus." He would be @GovRonDeSantis' mini-me if the Pinochet from Tampa Bay wasn't so mini already.
And this bozo, who would be funny if he weren't so dangerous, does not yet have a Democratic opponent. @INDems, where are we? Who is gonna be our @SenFettermanPA, our @SenSherrodBrown?
Meanwhile, the race for Governor is crowded on the Republican side. It's hard to set oneself apart in a primary full of right-wing maniacs, so Fort Wayne businessman @DodenForIndiana is giving away babies.
Lieutenant Governor @LGSuzanneCrouch would continue that kind of quiet yet effective Pence-Holcomb fascism Hoosiers have grown accustomed to. All the hate without the bombast.
The final Republican we discuss is @SenatorBraun, who hasn't always been as good about keeping the mask on. "Legitimate r@pe" disqualified Richard Mourdock in 2012. Is Braun's 1950's take on interracial marriage DQ him? Is it a plus in the GOP primary?
Finally, we discuss Democrat @mccormickforgov. Does the former Republican inspire left-leaning voters to come out? She stands against GOP overreach. Good! But what does she stand for? I need convincing. #HoosLeft would welcome her to the pod to talk about her vision.
Anyway, it's a double-stuffed episode and I hope you come along. Give us a listen. Please subscribe, share, and leave a review. #HoosLeft is available on all your favorite podcast players or through my Substack at scottaaronrogers.substack.com
Hey #Indiana, on last week's #HoosLeft podcast, I wrestled with whether or not the Democratic Party is the best route for progressive change.
I decided that, imperfections and all, the nature of our system yields two parties. If we want to change that, we need to use the infrastructure already in place to gain the power do so.
The authoritarian far-right are way too close to realizing all their goals and I fear the hour is too late to try and build something altogether new.
#HB 1608 passed in the House last Thursday and will move onto the Senate this week. This disgraceful bill stigmatizes trans kids, as if they weren't struggling enough already.
#Hoosier#Republicans, already using state funds to subsidize religious education and already-wealthy private school parents, have now seen fit to single out the 0.006% of kids that identify as trans.
My good friend @LinearRadio joins me as we zoom out from #Indiana to look at the current moment of crisis, rising authoritarianism, and how we got here.

Not to be a bummer, but the National Football League is a pretty horrific organization. You might not notice if you're only watching on Sundays, but if you look between the headlines, you'll find a multi-billion dollar empire built on exploitation.
Like the #MagicEye puzzles of the 90's, the underlying suffering is invisible unless seen from the right angle.
