The Palk Bay in #TamilNadu has the most abundant seagrass ecosystem in #India. Palk bay is a shallow lagoon-like sea, that allows sunlight to touch the sea floor, creating a fledging green sea grass forest. It supports many aquatic species including highly vulnerable Dugong 1/3
Lately, a lot of Aquaculture companies are started on the eco-sensitive shore of Palk Bay. Releasing the chemical pollutant into shore, it affects the wealth of seagrass & other ecosystem. @supriyasahuias@HemaShares , I req govt to regulate them better, restrict new facility 2/3
Palk bay is a shallow sea shared between TN (India) & Sri Lanka, mostly a waveless sea, like a large lake. One of the 5 sediment sink in #India. Sediments from Palk Bay & Gulf of Manner dumped here. It has clear water & seagrass. It is rich fishing ground & snorkeling place 3/3
Non-governmental org like OMCAR and Govt org like NCSCM monitor this unique ecosystem. But we need a larger policy focus to protect our valuable ecosystem from over fishing, illegal construction and pollution

This resort opened in 2018, it says, it spans an area of 100Acre, who gave the permission, to built such a large project on the lush green forest of Coorg, only god knows abt the things happening in Kodagu. Kodava's have no control over Kodagu anymore. #Kumaradhara
This resort situated near to Mallalli falls of Kumaradhara river. This resort sit near the shore of Kumaradhara tributary near Pushpagiri peak. Kumaradharais a tributary of Nethravathy that joins sea near southern Kudla (Mangalore)
I am not blaming Karnataka alone. it is happening everywhere, in Himachal, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra..etc. Nobody knows how resorts get a permission inside deep jungles, protested forest, wildlife sanctuaries..etc, that too owned by non tribal/local.
The forgotten story of #Tamil's perished in the construction of 415km Siam(Thailand)–Burma Railway. During World War-II, Japan captured Thailand, to go forward into Burma, they built a railway using POW & indentured labor incl Malaysian plantation Tamil. Overall >1 Lakh died 1/4
On 14th Dec 1941 Japan took control of Siam(Thailand), wanting to capture Burma and parts of India. To help move their Army, they started a 415km railway. Construction began in 15 Sep 1942 in Burma, involving >2.5lakh poor labor from Burma, Thailand and Malaysian Tamil's 2/4
Japanese used somewhere between 40000 to 90000 poor plantation Tamils, luring them with the false promise of high wages. But the disease and tough work environment killed 16000 to 40000 Tamil's. The story and the blood of Coolie Tamils between 1850 to 1950 is forgotten 3/4
It is a mango season. India is the largest Mango producer in the world, it cultivates more than 1/3rd of Mango's in the world. India produces ~20 million tonnes of mango, cultivated in ~57 lakhs acres. Andhra and UP top the list, higher than the 2nd most cultivated country 1/5
This map shows mango cultivation across #TamilNadu for the FY 2020-2021. #Krishnagiri tops the state in the Cultivated area but only in 2020, Tiruvallur saw the highest mango cultivation at ~10Cr kg. Mango cultivation changes based on the Variety/climate/rainfall/heat..etc 2/5
In the year 2019-2020 Krishnagiri was top with 2.22lakh tonnes of Mango, Tiruvallur placed at No.7, and Dharmapuri was at No.2. This map shows mango cultivated areas in 2021, this should be taken as a basis to assess mango cultivation. Krishnagiri is always top in Mango 3/5
Elephant 🐘herd crossing Marudhamalai temple steps. It is part of 4 U-shaped Valleys of Velliangiri range, an elephant habitat. Recently plastics, masks..etc were discovered in elephant dung in that area. Many Panchayats incl Somaiyampalayam dump their waste in the foothills 1/4
Coimbatore forest division (part of Coimbatore forest circle) has four important U-shaped Valleys 1. Booluvampatti Valley 2. Thadagam 3. Periyanaickenpalayam 4. Velliangadu
These are important wildlife corridors, and sources of Noyyal river, this area is fast urbanizing 2/4
Coimbatore forest div records highest man-made elephant death. This region is struggling due to fast urbanization, brick kilns, illegal/corrupted religions, & educational institutes. If planned properly Coimbatore city will continue to have beautiful wildlife backyard or ? 3/4
Stories of Tamils in Moreh town of Manipur is fascinating. Moreh is a multicultural town located on the Burma border. In 1962, Military Junta Ne Win, threw out Tamil's from Burma . Many Tamil's who came back to #TamilNadu, found it poor with no job, tried to go back to Burma 1/5
Rangoon Tamils who were born & brought up in the lush green field of Burma tried to re-enter Burma, but Burmese Army blocked them, so settled in the border jungles of Moreh in Manipur. In 1970 Moreh had >13000 Tamils, with their Burma connect, started dominating border trades 2/5
Tamil started dominating the border trade between India & Burma often it sis illegal. Tamil's domination in business led to 1992 Kuki tribe violence, they burnt the town business of Tamils, and many left the town and migrated to Tamil Nadu, now only ~3000 Tamils live there 3/5
This map shows the population projection for the year 2036 by the National Commission on Population Report 2020. It projects #TamilNadu and Himachal will have the lowest population growth in this coming decade and TN will have the highest median age in #India at 40.5 yrs 1/4
I feel projections for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are very conservative. I feel TN population will be better than the projection. Reports finding show TN population will stagnate at 7.8Cr for 4-5 yrs then will start to decline, TN fertility rate will decline to 1.51 2/4
The next 15yrs are crucial for #TamilNadu, we need to grow to be upper-middle-class economy with 8lakh per capita income in next 15yrs. TN has to achieve 1 Trillion economy in next 10yrs to reach USD 13000 per capita GDP. I wish the best for govt to achieve 1Trillion target 3/4
