🎉 I presented MATEO, a tool for effortless #MT evaluation! It received an overwhelming response from researchers, users, and industry, validating my belief that improving accessibility to #opensource #evaluation methods fills a need. Check it out here: lt3.ugent.be/mateo/

In its short lifespan MATEO has also garnered virtual attention. The initial tweet a week ago received >4000 views, 13 rt and 46 ❤️. The #github repository was forked 1x and ⭐️ 5x. 26 new friends joined my followers. Not much to some perhaps but motivating for me regardless!
MATEO has already been put into action! @lievemacken presented a #collaboration with @ArdaKardes and me on using and teaching #MT evaluation in the classroom, which was a significant motivator to create MATEO to begin with. @NatPavlovicZG put it to the test with students as well!
In addition to MATEO, I am also involved in @SignONEU to work on #signlanguage translation. I co-organized the @AT4SSL2023 workshop where I also chaired the last session. I especially liked the discussion session led by @bricksdont! cc @EASIERproject @DShterionov @Mir_DeSisto
At EAMT I met many new people or strengthened bonds with others. They're from different backgrounds and focal points, all as open and kind as the other. We discussed collaborations and research ideas in #mt, #evaluation and #LLMs. My mind is buzzing with sparks of inspiration! ✨
The real-life connections at #eamt2023 have been a much needed confidence boost for me. While my main research focus is shifting to #signlanguage translation and mainly creative text generation, I hope to stay involved in #mt. I really wish to see you all again next year ❤️
