New projects coming soon, but first, some story time:👀
🧵 Back in 11/2022, the best I could do was some data science in Python & even though I was familiar with programming, I had never built an app before ..
& I did not know anything about all the different frameworks out there.
I always wanted to build a startup but very often, it seemed like something beyond my reach. I would often question myself: I was a technical guy, but not enough to build a software startup on my own 🤔
I had a basic understanding of business but I didn't quite fit the mold of a charismatic CEO.
As a result, I often felt torn between these two worlds, not really belonging to any of them.
In November 2022 I decided to take coding and product development more seriously.
I had tried this in the past (reading tutorials, online courses, …) but I never really was able to keep consistent with it.
It just wasn’t for me.
Until I stumbled on some videos about the #indiehackers community - a group of people aspiring to achieve true financial independence without relying on venture capitalists or investors 💰.
This concept resonated deeply with me.
Previously, I thought the only way to build a business was by raising large amounts of money to hire developers, marketers, and sales people.
This challenged all of my beliefs.
I continued watching Youtube video after Youtube video until eventually I came across @levelsio lecture in Bali: “How to build a startup without funding”.
This one resonated so much with me that I started building @ChainVision right away after watching it.
The key takeaway was simple: "Just do it yourself, learn to code— Google it and start building something."
That's precisely what I did, and this time, I was able to remain consistent and really enjoy what I was doing.
I was genuinely enjoying the process!
On top of that, about 2 weeks into my journey, ChatGPT was released, and obv, I used it to code & troubleshoot.
I was amazed by the results.
Suddenly, I had an experienced assistant available to me at all times & I started believing more in myself. 🤖
I could do it too!
I decided to build something in an industry I was passionate about, without necessarily thinking about product market fit etc..
Along the way, I changed my tech stack several times, made millions of mistakes and eventually realized that there might be no market for this particular product.
But I still kept on building as this was my "learning" project.
These last 12 months have been a pretty crazy journey for me, with significant changes—changing jobs, getting married, and embarking on my indiehacker journey.
To date, I haven't made a single dollar yet.
BUT, I have gained confidence in my ability to build products.
I've become much quicker at bringing ideas to life and have developed a solid understanding of a tech stack I can leverage for my future apps.
Tbh, I'm still far from being good at anything, but I've progressed enough to build functional solutions that may one day generate income.
But at least I now know where I am going. And I am planning to build A LOT of stuff over the next 5 years.
I've also been working on other projects in the background, but before launching them I want to learn more about marketing and launching with @chainvisionio.
I'll be launching it on Product Hunt, Hacker News, Reddit, and other platforms over the coming weeks (support pls thx).
Even if it doesn't become a commercial success, it will have fulfilled a vital purpose for me - changed my mindset and my beliefs + I can now quickly build other products!
Sorry for this long post and me being a bit of a threadboii but I felt the need to share this 😅
Finally, I want to thank everyone in the #buildinpublic and #indiehackers community for being the best community on the internet!
It's truly insipiring to be on this journey with so many different like-minded folks - let's keep going and crushing it everyone 💪🏽
