A few words, if you indulge me, on John “Sam” “Sammy” “Fossil” “Samuel” Newman.

First, I acknowledge that he is hopelessly out of touch,
, thus, most of what he says should be taken with a grain os salt. This #SSM debate has proved one thing beyond doubt, though: Some people..
...are idiots and could do with some basic education.
Let’s start at the start. The AFL is not telling anyone what they should do, they are telling people what they themselves would do.
The AFL is a public company. In the world of business there is something known as Corporate Citizenship or Corporate Social Responsibility.
That is the idea that companies should make measures to be seen as valuable members of the community. This could be supporting charities...
...or advocating for certain causes. The AFL are given this right by being a registered Australian company.
Someone once told me that to stupid people Donald Trump sounds intelligent. Newman uses this same trick. By using words like obsequious...
...he comes across as well-read and educated, which he is, but it does nothing to further his argument. In fact, using ‘obsequious’ and ...
...’sycophantic’ in the same description is a tautology, rendering it redundant. Finishing the sentence with ‘whores’ completely undoes ...
... any work performed earlier in the sentence.
Telling a company to keep their “snouts out of people’s lives” could be termed ironic, considering the debate is about whether government..
.... should be allowed to legislate on a matter crucial to people’s lives.
As @Racey19 said, the right to an opinion is not the same as the right to equality.
The decision to advocate for same sex Marriage is not on behalf of supporters of footy. In real terms, unless you’re one of just over ...
... 200 AFL Life Members, you have no stake in what the AFL does. Their decisions are made on behalf of the Commission and their staff.
As a corporate citizen, the AFL makes decisions as if they are one person. Just as one person can update their Facebook status that they...
...are voting No, so too can the AFL indicate that their preference would be to vote Yes..
Once again, Corporate Social Responsibility. Look it up.
I tweeted this quote yesterday, but honestly. “Nothing about the gays.” First of all, “the gays”? It’s not the 70s.
Secondly, it’s everything about “the gays.” We are literally voting on whether “the gays” should have the same rights as the non-gays.
To finish up, some see Newman as the classic Grandpa Simpson “Old Man Yells At Cloud” meme. Not me.
I see him more as Homer.
Except Homer comes to his senses in the end.
End rant.
