HPD is investigating reports that 13 y/o Zavion Parker was snatched on his way home from school in East Houston. He’s ok and back with his family — but was found with a torn shirt and no shoes. He says one of the suspects had a tattoo of a racial slur.

The 6 suspects (5 of which are roughly 17-18 years-old) are all described as having reddish hair. The adult driver had a heavy build with arm tats. He was driving a red truck with flames on the side. If you see anything, know anything — speak up.

Zavion said he was taken to a vacant property full of guns/torture items that looked like a cabin from the outside. When asked why he was abducted, he says the suspects replied “because you’re Black.” He managed to run away; a driver found him, called police.

This is Camecia Carmouche, the woman who saw Zavion Parker running down the street; stopped to help him.

Woman in East Houston just called me. Says at least 7 officers are at an abandoned “shack”/property near Zavion’s home right now. The street is blocked off and they appear to be investigating. Don’t know what will come of this, but will keep you posted.

Last night, HPD responded to Zavion’s home to follow up on a lead. He, his mom and Camecia (the driver who found him) led officers to the cabin/shack Zavion described. According to them — officers recovered a wooden chair, shell casings and weapons. 😳

Waiting to hear an official word back from HPD. What they can say depends on where they are in the investigation.

A lot of parents have commented on our Facebook and web abduction story, wondering how they can equip their children. Well, today, I went by Elite MMA to talk self-defense training.

Something to keep in mind: just because police aren’t saying much right now doesn’t mean they aren’t building a case and working behind the scenes (investigators don’t announce their every move). I do know a detective reached out to Zavion’s mom today.

•he has never made up things before

•always comes straight home from school — (meaning she had no reason to think he wasn’t telling the truth)

▪️According to Zavion’s former teacher: he’s a “really sweet, respectful kid”

I called HPD this afternoon about the #ZavionParker case. I’m told: it’s “still an active investigation.”

#ZavionParker’s mom has been asked to bring Zavion in over the next few days to describe what happened to a detective. A child counselor will be there to assist and support.

Houston Independent School District confirms:

•it did send out a robo call notice to parents at Forest Brook Middle School (where #ZavionParker attends) about his attempted abduction.

•will have extra patrols around campus.

#ZavionParker’s family and neighbors are holding a ‘Justice For Zavion’ rally Saturday, May 19 at Northeast YMCA in Houston. Starts at 6 p.m.

UPDATE: #ZavionParker’s mom says this is the shack/cabin Zavion was taken to. They drove by there to get a picture and see if there was any activity. Neighbors told her the men who use it don’t actually live there, but DO reside nearby.

Someone spotted a red truck with flames in Brazoria County, Texas today; sent the photo to #ZavionParker’s mom. She asked her son if this was the truck he was talking about. He said yes.
