Bill Whicker III & the Proud Boys kicked me out of their rally because I didn't "support the cause"

Then the cops came over to also kick me out because it's a permitted demo. Why did they give them a permit right after the prez of Piedmont PBs got arrested for the Capitol riot? There are probably a few dozen people at the fash rally. I'm with a group of counter-protesters across the street. Thought people might be embarrassed to rally with PBs after the coup debacle but I guess these fools never learn.

The right is inexplicably attempting to blame yesterday's coup attempt on Antifa, but a cursory round of the Capitol revealed the would-be insurrectionaries were the same fringe right and white nationalist groups that anti-fascists have been warning about for years. My photos: 1/ Image Overt white nationalists were present at the Capitol yesterday. I personally saw two people waving Kekistan flags. Kekistan is a fictional white ethnostate created by the alt-right. It's flag is designed to emulate the Nazi battle flag. 2/ ImageImageImage

CW: anti-semitism, genocide

Proud Boy Jeremy Bertino is going full Nazi. This is a purposeful allusion to Nazi slogan "6mwe" ("6 million wasn't enough," in reference to the Holocaust)

Jeremy knows Nazis will get it but is trying to maintain plausible deniability with 'normies' Proud Boys were recently spotted wearing the genocidal slogan on t-shirts.

Okay, I'm gonna rant about "the fascists want violence; don't give it to them."

It is correct that they want violence, but incorrect that they will fail to find it if no one counters them. Fascists will always find violence because they will attack the targets of their hate. 1/ If you give fascists the run of city, they will assault Black people, transgender or gender nonbinary people, and other groups they hate.

To a less degree (but sometimes) they will even attack anyone the peg as "liberal." Some people got attacked in DC just for wearing masks.

On Saturday, I went to DC to join the Black Lives Matter protest &oppose the Proud Boys' fascist hate rally.

I'm going to thread some thoughts on how DC's Metropolitan Police Department bled anti-racists' numbers & made it easier for PBs to roam the streets assaulting people. 1/ I decided not to live tweet because friends who were watching fascists' livestreams tipped me off that a couple of them said they were looking for me. We were outnumbered, so I didn't want to give hints of my position.

Nonetheless I hope this retrospective will be useful 2/

Cops have used pepper spray at least 5 times against a Black led march to the polls in Graham NC. Multiple arrests. Kids got sprayed.

Some of the pepper spray blew back on the cops and they were choking. There was no violence except from cops. They sprayed people for marching in the street.

I am attending a Zoom meeting for Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Council. Provost Bob Blouin is going to speak about UNC's re-opening plans. I will try to live tweet some updates. Allen Buansi starts by summarizing a proclamation honoring the anniversaries of the 15th Amendment and Voting Rights Acts. He discusses current attacks on the right to vote. See social media channels for full proclamation.

Weird name for this case considering UNC and the white supremacists are on the same side. Nonetheless, I'm here to live tweet the latest hearing in the #SilentSham scandal. Recall that the judge in this case, Allen Baddour, is personally involved in some shady shit. Baddour was in frequent contact with UNC BOG lawyers *before* the case was filed. wbtv.com/2020/01/29/jud…

UPDATE. On 11/16/19, my friends & I were arrested after being assaulted by white supremacists who were rallying under the flag of neo-Nazi hate group League of the South. My charge was dismissed today on the grounds that I acted "in self-defense of others." 1/ The state had charged me with simple assault (a worse charge than the racists who attacked us, who were given simple affray). They pursued the false charge against me for months until my lawyer subpoenaed their evidence, which proved my innocence. 2/

Damning footage of police calling anti-racist UNC students “Antifa assholes” & “fuckers” after pepper-spraying us on 8/30/18. They express their love for the "polite" racists - which included League of the South, infamous for its violence at the Nazi rally in Charlottesville. At -33:09, a cop says "can I go punch her?" after an anti-racist who they had just arrested calls them cowards.

I'm in the Orange County Courthouse to observe the trial of Nancy Rushton McCorkle and Ryan Barnett, former members of Heirs to the Confederacy on trial for desecrating Unsung Founders memorial. dailytarheel.com/article/2019/0… Molly is also live-tweeting the trial. We were sitting behind a woman who attends demos wearing an Israel t-shirt & has formed a bizarre alliance with neo-Nazi Daniel McMahon. She moved after taking video/photos of us.

THREAD: at #AHA2019, I will discuss conflicts between fascists/neoconfeds and anti-racists after the fall of #SilentSam. How should academics should react when confronted with the worst of the issues we study? I argue that UNC's response amounts to collaboration with fascism. 1/ First - let’s establish the presence of fascists on the side UNC describes simply as “pro-Silent Sam.” Activists have documented the participation of several groups who marched with Nazis in Charlottesville during the Unite the Right rally in 2017. I'll list a few examples. 2/

THREAD. In light of his social media relationship with the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter, I’m going to provide some background on Danny McMahon AKA Jack Corbin, the fascist who has been harassing @UNC anti-racists. CW: extreme racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, misogyny. 1/ What does he believe? Jack is a self-described fascist. He objects to the ‘socialism’ part of national socialism, but seems fine with the genocide part. Won’t subject you to his mockery of Holocaust victims or torture fantasies, so here’s a basic shot that proves the point. 2/
