1/ Very important remarks by @JosepBorrellF after #EU MFAs' meeting on #Israel/#Gaza:
#Borrell was as unequivocal in condemning #Hamas's crimes as were other EU leaders
But unlike them, he didn't forget IHL exists and Palestinians are people
A thread ⤵️eeas.europa.eu/eeas/israelgaz…2/ Borrell repeatedly stressed #Israel has the right to defend itself from #Hamas, but has to do so in compliance with international humanitarian law
"...cutting water, electricity & food to a mass of civilian people is against int'l law" he said, also referencing UN statements

1/6) #EUChina: sadly, @JosepBorrellF's speech at #EPlenary (bit.ly/3j7zTGn) makes it clear Europe is still far from understanding - and most of all addressing - the worrying, underlying reasons why Beijing is de facto siding with #Russia on #Ukraine

2/6) Beijing has long been working to dismantle decades of progress in the int'l human rights system and replace it with one that allows for its systematic repression and atrocity crimes: hrw.org/news/2020/09/1…
In this, authoritarian govts like Russia's are its "natural" allies
