Confronting Whiteness as a driving force of White Racial Domination and naming AntiBlackness as a target of intervention is risky work. And yet, Baldwin offers us insight that we’ve used to keep ourselves grounded. The risk taking isn’t optional. Image

One of the ways I reinforce racial my literacy is through repeated lived experiences of racial stress rooted in racist disrespect. Each time I step out into the world as myself, I break the rules of caste and pay dearly for it 🧵

As a consultant paid for my labor, I’ve learned to anticipate the ways this rejection of caste creates a distinct vulnerability to interpersonal & organizational racism.

The more I dig deep into historical texts/receipts, the more I see the game the @APAPsychiatric is playing & it’s a long game. I wrote a piece on my experiences as an early career psychiatrist in the org & I’ve spoken with many since then. I’d like to share what I’ve learned. 🧵 For context: jisommdmph.medium.com/i-will-no-long…

The more I am exposed to how physicians openly and privately think, the more I’m convinced that racial equity is a patient safety issue, period. The questions driving our solutions have to be “how can we protect patients (and ourselves) from harm?” A 🧵 I just read a survey report detailing a number of physician perspectives on race, gender and discrimination which provided quotes from those with not so shocking ignorance and those who have been pushed to the margins in their own professions.

Sigh…my ancestors would roll over in their graves if I refrained from commentary on how anti-Blackness shows up in “compliments”…a 🧵 t.co/Y6Gr92HGkG This woman is beautiful. Fact. Is she a work of art? No. Is she a freak of nature? No. Let’s break it down further.

Reason (mostly White but not only, sadly) folks can’t “see” racism is because of their indoctrination. Now, the folks in positions of power & on the fringes of extremism will continue to argue those with racial consciousness are indoctrinated. This ain’t about them. A 🧵 Image Yesterday, I took a ride with a white woman Uber driver. I’d had breakfast and done the Black Lives Matter meditation by Dr. Candice Nicole so I was feeling muuuuuuch better since hearing they let white supremacy reign once again in the criminal injustice system.

Y’all, love on the person who you haven’t loved on in days or weeks or years. Say something kind. Apologize and repair that relationship. Make someone feel seen & heard. Listen like it’s nobody’s business & reflect back what they say. Validate the shit out of their experiences 🧵 Every clinical day for me has me wanting to shout Be a Good Human from the rooftops. Because we are dying, hurting, crying and pretending it’s okay. We are going through life with unmet needs as if that’s normal. We are asking each other to “get over it” as if we ourselves have.

Racism is a school of thought, feelings and behaviors that goes beyond visualization of skin color. It is taught to individuals and institutionalized. Even to those who lack sight from birth, “seeing” race shapes their social interactions and life experiences. A fascinating read. Image The qualitative data in this text is shockingly honest and tragically demonstrative of the racial socialization processes that embed meanings into socially constructed racial groups. This is a unique combination of CRT and empirical study that I’ve struggled to put down.
