I had some things to say about this because of course I did. 🧵

"I'm Mvskoke and Semvnole. We lived in wooden long houses traditionally. They were permanent housing centered around a town square. We had at least 50 Tribal Towns which were organized into the largest governmental Collage of 2 photos. On the left shows a Mvskoke Semvnole woman holding up a pie beautifully decorated the words FUCK COLONIZATION. The OP post about the picture reads: She'd still be living in a semi-permanent mud hut gathering berries 10 hours a day while her husband figures out which of their tribe is best fit for sacrifice.... And there would be NO PIE. They had yet to discover the wheel, and were still carrying stuff around on their heads (just a fact) when the colonizers arrived. If you love and are grateful for what we have in America, thank colonizer. Happy Thanksgiving! The pi... confederacy on Turtle Island pre invasion. These distinct moeties were separated into red and white towns, as well as having a Matrilineal Clan system. It was a highly sophisticated form of government which not only predates colonization but exists still today.

When the federal Indian boarding "schools" (reeducation camps) closed the land was supposed to revert back to the Native Nations it came from.*

The catholic church currently illegally occupies 10,000 acres of stolen land on which they held prisoner

#landback White background with black and red text that reads: If you're reading this.... Give the land back and abused our young Native relatives. Between the church and the catholic bureau of Indian missions they were responsible for 67 reeducation camps in the so called united states.

In June the u.s. catholic bishops apologized for their role in the reeducation camps.

It's oklahoma land run day so I'm going to tell you a story about how I was forced to celebrate it in grade school. 🧵1/4

We had a land run reenactment. They taped off parts of the black top parking lot into squares and Image when they blew a whistle all the kids in my grade ran to stake a claim on a square.

Except me.

As the only Native in my grade I was made to stand to the side and play "Indian".

oklahoma is home to 39 Native Nations, many forced here under the indian removal act.

CW: Native genocide

Today is the anniversary of the largest mass shooting in American history, Wounded Knee, a massacre on December 29, 1890 that has been relegated to history as a "battle". 🧵

#rememberWoundedKnee #WoundedKneeMassacre
#woundedknee The Wounded Knee massacre saw 250-300 disarmed Lakota slaughtered. Half that number were women and children.

Today is the 160th anniversary of the largest mass execution in u.s. history, carried out on the orders of The Great Emancipator, abraham lincoln. In 1862 Minnesota was considered the new frontier. White settlers had been pushing Dakota Indians further west, making false promises of peace and breaking treaties amongst both groups. The u.s. promised to deliver food and supplies to the Dakota

Citizenship of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and the Pretendian Hit List Attack on Sovereignty: 🧵

In May '21 The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma submitted to and got approval from the department of interior to update their constitution, removing the "by blood" requirement for enrollment.

doi.gov/pressreleases/…

Why then is Jackie still talking about the blood quantum of an enrollee in order to invalidate their Indigeneity?

andrew jackson signed the Indian removal act today in 1830. You may remember it from not being covered in your history class, or as the thing that happened so "oklahoma" can celebrate Land Run Day, or as that time that gave you a great, great grandma who was maybe an Indian princess probably and also gives you have permission to wear headdresses at music festivals.

I have been trying to wrap my brain around #Uvalde and come up with words about how horrific it is, how these executions are unacceptable, how we as a people are irretrievably broken if we don't do something to stop this immediately. 🧵 I keep coming back to those #UvaldePolice officers who not only didn't run towards the danger like everyone believes they should but in most cases do not but who forcibly detained parents who wanted to save their children, a task those cowards refused to do.

CW: Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative

Reading through volume one of the report. Here's what I'm finding, with limited commentary, as I read through. It's heartbreaking. 🧵 There were 408 federal schools across 37 states (21 in Alaska, 7 in Hawaii) that the report qualified as federal boarding schools.

On this day of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2 Spirit Awareness I honor my Great Great Grandmother Louisa (Yahola) Scott who lost her life in 1900 to violence that is still all too familiar to us today.

Can we not with the Handmaid's Tale bullshit?

Non WOC know this: the blocked access to women's reproductive care and choices that you're about to face are hurdles we as WOC already know, understand, and have lived with this entire time. I was once severely pressured to get an IUD I did not want. It took me an hour to convince my doctor to give me the birth control method I had researched and chosen.

Abortion saved my life.

I didn't have one. Instead I gave my child up for adoption. It was the worst best decision I've ever made. I believe as a parent you do what is best for your child and sometimes that means accepting that you aren't it. It took me years to get over the grief and loss. Yes, even though it was my decision it's still the loss of a child and must be dealt with as such. Took me years of therapy to learn to live with it and forgive myself. Twenty seven years later and I still have bad days.

That Time Natives Gave @MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred An Award: A Thread

Last week MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred decided that racial justice for Natives is over by announcing he was cool with the @braves racist name, chop, and chant.

#TheTimelsNow #NotYourMascot #ChangeTheName Apparently Rob Manfred solved racism against Natives when he got Cleveland to stop wearing chief wahoo on the field in 2018.

ATLANTA FANS ARE NOT RACIST: A Thread

Now that I have your attention:
I mean not *all* Atlanta fans are racist.

The @braves name, chop, and chant are 100% racist. As is Rob Manfred. As is anyone who perpetuates stereotypes that denigrate Natives.

#thetimeisnow #changethename What people don't understand is that you can do and participate in things that are racist without being racist yourself. It's your understanding of what you are doing or participating in that makes the difference.

I was going to answer individually but, shockingly, Atlanta fans vocabulary is really limited so they just repeat each other. Here's my response.

Yes I: am fat, have blue bangs, could eat more salads

No I: am not a guy, white, going to fuck myself/die

Oh! And... For those simply tweeting my profile pic I feel bad that you can't use your words so here's some more for you to choose from so I don't get bored. Again.

Thanks for the chance to look at some really great memories!

What I'd really like is to go back to not having to talk about this but I made a promise to my kid in 2014. She was told in a college class that racism against Natives didn't matter because of the Washington, Cleveland, Atlanta, and KC names and mascots. I promised her that I'd do everything in my power to make sure she never had to hear anything like that again.

I failed.

Ok.

Just remember you asked. The other night the @Braves dimmed the lights so their fans could once again perform the disgusting tomahawk chop, lit by their phone flashlights and amplified by their faclke Native chant. This despite years of Natives opposing the chop as racist.

Yes. I described the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians using the word "pet" .

Since some Atlanta fans are using their cerebral cortices to remember the tomahawk chant instead of learning how actual words work I'll explain, not that they'll bother to admit they misunderstood. English contains 8 parts of speech that have specific functions in a sentence: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, and articles.

For our purposes we'll focus on nouns and adjectives.

Take it from me, a former catholic, I would love nothing more than to hold the Vatican accountable for all their atrocities, of which there are many.

But this isn't one of them.

This is the Vatican site. It's IP address is Vatican City, The Holy See.

Vatican.va The Vatican lists every site associated with it. Vatican.com is not one of them.
