At 11pm on Friday night, under the cover of darkness, the Luxon Government made it easier for foreign corporations to buy and exploit New Zealand’s most ecologically and culturally sensitive land - including conservation land, lakebeds and wāhi tapu sites. 🧵 Te Waikoropupu Springs. David Seymour’s Overseas Investment Amendment Bill passed last week. One of its biggest changes: removing the requirement for the Government to run even basic criminal checks on corporations wanting to buy New Zealand’s most sensitive land.
