🚨 BREAKING: Shell backs down in lawsuit against Greenpeace.

People power works!

🧵👇 Shell sued us for millions of dollars because we peacefully protested on one of their climate-wrecking oil platforms in 2023.

But together we showed them their bullying tactics won’t intimidate us.

🚨HUGE CLIMATE WIN🚨

For the first time the UK Supreme Court has ruled a new oil drilling licence unlawful because the government IGNORED emissions from burning fossil fuels.

This could help stop future fossil fuel projects. We need a renewable energy plan focused on workers.⬇️ The UK Supreme Court has ruled in favour of a climate campaigner in her legal challenge against plans to drill for oil in Surrey.

The new projects were approved without taking into account the emissions produced from burning the fossil fuels.⬇️

.@Shell is doing a Greg again…

#DontBeLikeGreg #StopShell Shell is suing Greenpeace for millions of dollars for a peaceful climate protest. And now they want to stop us from exposing their role in driving the climate crisis when we defend ourselves in court.

There’s been a lot of noise about us climbing on the roof of one of the Prime Minister’s many homes.

There’s just one message we’d like you to remember.

New oil and gas WILL NOT lower our bills!

Here’s why 👇🧵

#NoNewOil #StopRosebank #Greenpeace Image The companies that own the oil and gas will export most of it overseas and any that is sold back to us will be done so at the international market price.

This is how we get out of the mess we’re in. @UKLabour's plan to end new North Sea oil and gas, ban fracking & turbocharge renewables is what real climate leadership looks like 👇
theguardian.com/politics/2022/… Solar and wind are nine times cheaper than gas AND will:

Create jobs✅
Lower bills ✅
Cut emissions✅
Break our dependence on gas markets and fossil fuel autocrats✅✅

Today's price cap announcement means millions will be pushed into poverty in October.

That’s why we’ve joined forces with anti-poverty and other environmental groups who are demanding the UK govt take urgent action to keep people #WarmThisWinter

Join us act.gp/3KhFabm Graphic showing how the price cap is double what it was last The UK govt needs a plan now to lower energy bills. What they need to do is:

💷Support struggling households
🏡Insulate homes
🌄Rapidly expand renewable energy
❌Stop approving and subsidising new oil & gas fields that won’t lower bills

The latest #IPCC report has just been released, and the message from the world’s top scientists is clear:

We need to urgently tackle our addiction to fossil fuels and industrial meat.

A thread🧵 Fossil fuels are driving the climate crisis and funding Vladimir Putin’s war and other global conflicts.

The industrial food system is taking up vast amounts of land to feed factory farms instead of people, destroying climate-critical forests and threatening Indigenous Peoples.

What’s the UK government’s plastic policy? Dump it on other countries! Less than 10% of our plastic recycling is actually recycled in the UK.
The rest is sent overseas where it’s often burned or dumped, fuelling health and wildlife emergencies.

RT to expose. #Wasteminster 1/5 Plastic isn’t just a problem for wildlife and our oceans, it’s a problem for people too. Local communities near where UK plastic is dumped and burned are developing serious health issues. This isn’t building back better, this is more rich countries exploiting poorer ones. 2/5

This week, one thing we know: if the UK government believes there is a #ClimateEmergency it certainly isn’t acting like it. 🚨

Here’s a tale of words and not deeds. About the UK government’s climate commitments and climate action (or lack of).

Read on… #SolarVAT #NetZero 1/8 In May, the UK parliament declared a #ClimateEmergency… but this shouldn’t be mistaken for climate ACTION. 2/8
