"Johnson and his wife Carrie were among 800 guests at the event at Claridge's Hotel in London as Viscount Rothermere pledged: 'We are beholden to no one but our readers, who love and respect our journalism'"

Those bungs seem to have kept Rothermere happy

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1… "Lord Rothermere recalled some of the newspaper's famous campaigns which had changed Britain for the better, saying: 'Our detractors like to portray us as small-minded, little-Englanders. They could not be more wrong'"

The "COVID bung" Johnson gave newspapers that Cummings is talking about?

@BrianCathcart reported this for us in April 2020.

The established media is an entire power bloc in Britain that goes utterly unscrutinised. It's why we set up @BylineTimes

👇👇👇

bylinetimes.com/2020/04/28/the… And, while we're on the "COVID bung" for newspapers...

Another @BylineTimes report by @BrianCathcart from March this year:

'Government Refuses to Reveal Taxpayer Cost of Secret COVID Subsidy for Its Wealthy Press Friends'

"You demonise insurgents from within or without. The classic far-right playbook. And it is terrifying. People want to be very polite about it – but it is chilling"

I spoke to Shami Chakrabarti about plans to treat peaceful protestors like terrorists 👇

bylinetimes.com/2021/12/07/ter… "If you look at these new suite of measures, you've got something that looks like an anti-terror bill – except it's an anti-protest bill. It’s demonising protestors because now they're effectively being treated like terrorists"

"It's unworthy of Government, but then there are so many things unworthy of the Government. This is one of the worst things they're doing"

A privilege to speak to Lord @AlfDubs – who insisted I call him Alf – about playing politics with refugee lives 👇

bylinetimes.com/2021/11/26/his… Lord Dubs on Priti Patel: "It is very disappointing indeed that we have a Home Secretary who herself is a child of people some of us argued for and fought for, that they should have a right to come here. It’s ironic that she’s trying to pull up the drawbridge now that she’s here"

#DanielMorgan BREAKING: Met Police Asst. Commissioner Nick Ephgrave: "I don't accept the Met Police is institutional corrupt... It's a new term that's been coined… It's not a term people are familiar with. I don't see the evidence in front of me that supports that"

Staggering. #DanielMorgan Asst. Commissioner Nick Ephgrave: "I've watched how the organisation has developed its ability to detect corruption in all its forms. That doesn't mean there isn't still a threat & we have to be very live to that"

Met has best anti-corruption command "in the world"

Urgent question by @RhonddaBryant on #DanielMorgan report delay.

Asks when it will be published and whether any pressure has been applied from Murdoch, Rebekah Brooks or News UK.

"Thanks to corruption in the police and inteference by News UK, the family has had no justice. Victoria Atkins, Home Office Minister, says: it will be published when it receives it from the Panel. "One cannot block publication of a report if one has not yet received it" - says only caveat on redactions is national security/human rights considerations #DanielMorgan

Wow. Government's race commission concludes that Britain is a "model to the world" on diversity and that there is no evidence of institutional racism in Britain today. Just wow. This is a significant attempt to roll back decades and decades of hard-won progress in this country 🔽 "Increasing 'diversity' does not, in itself, tackle racism when issue is a cultural, historic identity in which racism is embedded. To the contrary, it can be a smokescreen"

I wrote about difference between 'diversity' & institutional racism last week 🔽

Have asked the BBC why it doesn't appear to have reported Jennifer Arcuri's new revelations of a 4-yr affair with Boris Johnson & questions this raises about her benefiting from thousands of pounds in public money while he was London Mayor.

Hope press office doesn't ignore it 👀 And here's the response on #BBC News' lack of coverage of new revelations by Jennifer Arcuri:

BBC tells me "stories are chosen due to their editorial merit" & it "has covered the issue substantially when there have been newsworthy updates"

Catching up on @BBCPanorama & surprised not to see more headlines around its key findings – including Government counting items such as cleaning equipment, waste bags, detergent & paper towels as PPE. And *each* individual glove counted, rather than pairs

bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod… The @BBCPanorama report found instances of hospital staff being provided with aprons people would serve food in and boxes of masks with out-of-date stickers stuck over out-of-date stickers #COVIDー19

'How safe are British elections from foreign interference?' --> good to see @BBCNewsnight leading on this tonight. #GE2019 #ReleaseTheRussiaReport Whitehall officials have told @BBCNewsnight that they feel Downing Street HAS had adequate time to clear the #Russia report for publication. Officials concerned that report has been suppressed due to worries about its 'weaponisation' - which has been put before national security

"The Government’s place is not to be assisting people who think they can’t make it on their own, it’s an absolute last emergency order” --> the words of UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty & Human Rights @Alston_UNSR should shame Britain & need to be publicised. My THREAD: Professor Philip Alston said that 14 million people are in poverty in the UK (a figure the Government disputes) and that child poverty rates are “staggering” and are predicted to go up significantly over the next couple of years. #poverty #humanrights #austerity
