THREAD: My latest with @CivCenter's @jwrchappell on @SenSanders' historic new resolution invoking Section #502B of the Foreign Assistance Act over possible Israeli war crimes in Gaza. Here is why it matters.

justsecurity.org/90716/senator-… This rarely used resolution offers Congress a potent tool to force a high-profile Senate debate about U.S. military support for Israel and increase pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s to de-escalate the conflict.

No fuel vessels have been allowed to unload at Hodeidah port since Jan 3. 13 vessels carrying over 350,000 tons of fuel are currently being held off #Yemen’s coast. This means higher prices for fuel, food, & no power for health facilities.

reliefweb.int/report/yemen/w… Saudi Arabia's blockade is a main driver of the humanitarian crisis. Saudi has enforced this blockade for all 6 years of the war against Yemen’s population, by air, land and sea, and weaponizing access to food. #YemenCantWait

Going on 6 years of war & 4 years of @realDonaldTrump's disregard for the lives of millions of Yemenis, @JoeBiden has promised a policy reset. He's repeatedly called for an end to US participation & weapons in the #Yemen war. #YemenCantWait

truthout.org/articles/biden… To end U.S. complicity in this war, @JoeBiden must start his policy reset on day one by stopping weapons deliveries to the Saudi-UAE coalition, including Trump’s recently proposed $23 billion sale to the #UAE. #YemenCantWait #StopArmingUAE

This International Human Rights day I'm thinking about humanitarian crisis in #Yemen and the vote in the Senate yesterday to enable a leading driver of the violence in Yemen, the #UAE. #YemenCantWait #InternationalHumanRightsDay @AkbarSAhmed

huffpost.com/entry/trump-ua… Last night, the #US Senate just said Trump can send $23 billion in sophisticated weapons to the #UAE, including #F35s, Reaper drones, and munitions. The UAE is a leading driver of violence in the #Yemen & have helped push millions to the brink of famine. #YemenCantWait

I'm disappointed the Senate failed to pass bipartisan measures to block the sale of billions of dollars worth of advanced weaponry to the UAE. While the vote today came up short, what’s clear is that there is strong bipartisan opposition to these rushed sales, which includes nearly every Democrat in the U.S. Senate. @JoeBiden should heed this bipartisan message and block delivery of these weapons after taking office.
