Another day, another @MarkRobinsonNC scandal.

Robinson claims he spent thousands in campaign funds at a store who has no record that it happened, and around the same time he deposited thousands at a credit union where he held a personal loan. #ncpol 🧵

carolinapublicpress.org/65130/more-que… Robinson claims he spent $2375 at Lake Gaston Outfitters on "clothing and accessories."

The store owner says that never happened: "We sell kayaks. …We wouldn’t have anything here in our store that he would want.”

Weird--why would someone running for office lie about that? 🤔 Image

North Carolina deserves a far better governor than the absolutely dreadful @markrobinsonNC, a man who…🧵 #ncpol Doesn’t pay his taxes

The "nonprofit" filed claims for federal money on behalf of childcare centers that hadn’t requested money and did not receive it, submitted multiple claims for the same receipts, inflated expenses it could be reimbursed for, and failed to report hiring of family members #ncpol
Image It's not the first time Robinson and co. have been in hot water with @NCDHHS. They were previously investigated for forging criminal background qualifications letters and early childhood credentials and had to close their daycare to make the investigation go away. Image

Turns out all you have to do to get blocked by MAGA Republican for North Carolina Lt. Gov Hal Weatherman is tweet a picture of his 1988 article from the Wake Forest University student newspaper where he used the N word.

Your loss, Hal! #ncpol
Image Here's another 1988 gem from Hal's Wake Forest writing days.

In this one, Weatherman mocks @WakeForest's rape prevention program, saying "girls can be teases and guys have active hormones."

Is this the kind of person we want presiding over the Senate? #nope #ncpol Image

NC’s statewide races are incredibly important this November 🧵

We have a homeschooling mom who has never held a job in education & who called for Obama to be executed on live pay per view television as the Republican candidate to be superintendent of k-12 schools.😳 #nced #ncpol Image Her opponent is @MoGreenforNC, experienced leader (superintendent of @GCSchools) who is passionate about public education. You can learn more about his campaign here: mogreenfornc.com

Hey North Carolina, you think a stolen state legislative supermajority is bad enough, look at the absolute MAGA rogue's gallery waiting to turn us into the next Florida in November if we don't get off the couch and win some races:

#ncpol #nced #ncga Image Top of the ticket: Donald Trump, a 34x convicted felon found liable for sexual abuse and defamation with more than half a billion financial fraud judgement hanging over his head. NC could be crucial to his reelection. Image

Still can’t wrap my head around the fact that a homeschooling mom who has never held a job in a real educational setting and who called for Obama to be executed on live pay per view television is the Republican candidate to be NC’s superintendent of k-12 schools. 😳 #nced #ncpol Image Some more gems for anyone just getting acquainted with this nutcase. As a veteran teacher the prospect of Michele Morrow leading our whole k-12 system is terrifying.

Morrow playing all the old school Moms for Liberty hits. #nced #ncpol
Image This is a very neutral candidate profile, but what strikes me besides the generic M4L talking points are how little actual understanding of schools Morrow seems to have. Not surprising considering she’s a homeschool parent with no children attending said schools.

Tim your statement on who @TriciaCotham is and her education qualifications needed some edits--hope you don't mind! 🧵 #nced #ncpol
Image Tricia Cotham is a former teacher and assistant principal from Mecklenburg County whose service in education was commendable but expired many years ago along with her license and her concern for public schools. Image

With North Carolina's recent massive expansion of school vouchers and ditching the income eligibility requirement so we're now subsidizing wealthy families' private school tuition it's time to review the school privatizer playbook. #ncga #ncga #nced 🧵 1. Republicans take over control of state legislature. Draw maps that ensure nobody can vote you out regardless of how terrible your leadership is. Take over Supreme Court so maps can’t be challenged.

The racist history of school vouchers, a brief thread:

#nced #ncpol #ncga Image The roots of school vouchers in our country can be traced back to the wake of Brown vs. Board of Education, the Supreme Court court case in which justices ruled that racial segregation of children in public schools violated the Constitution. history.com/topics/black-h…

“No one believes” is a very Trumpian take which is completely unsurprising considering Bishop’s primary allegiance is to Donald Trump rather than to his constituents.

I’d contend lots of people view a bathroom full of nuclear secrets as a “bona fide security concern.” #ncpol Image I’d contend that plenty of people believe Trump waving confidential plans to attack Iran in front of his fans and saying, “…it is like, highly confidential. Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this” is a bona fide security concern.

Good time to re-share my favorite submissions to Lt. Governor @markrobinsonNC’s leftist teacher indoctrination complaint portal:

notesfromthechalkboard.com/2021/07/03/man… #nced #ncpol My daughter is a freshman and in her class last week she was told by her History teacher that she had to use Times New Roman font in her essay.  We are offended because the Romans killed Jesus!  I can't believe her school hates the lord!! Tomorrow the NC State Board of Education will vote on the attached request to the General Assembly to authorize and fund a merit pay and revised teacher licensure pilot program.

#nced #ncga #ncpol #PathwaysToExodus The program would be implemented in “public-school districts of varying size and geographic diversity” in school year 2024-25 following a year of planning in 23-24.

Never forget that state superintendent @CTruittNCDPI schemed with #PEPSC Chair Patrick Miller and @edstateboard_nc member Jill Camnitz to prevent @EducationNC from collecting teacher feedback on the merit pay proposal because she wouldn’t have control of the responses. #nced ImageImage At the same meeting, Truitt’s Chief of Staff Shelby Armentrout said “If teachers come out against it then it’ll be dead on arrival.”

teaching ≠ incarceration

At this week's #PEPSC Commission meeting, a member of the group tasked with moving NC to a merit pay system of licensing and compensating teachers referred to the career of the traditional classroom teacher as "incarceration."

#nced #ncpol With all due respect to Dr. Sam Houston (CEO of The North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Center) and his distinguished education resume, he hasn't worked as a classroom teacher in 40+ years and it shows.

With all due respect to Eckel and Vaughan's marketing advice here, lowering the bar so that anyone who can pass some online quizzes can become a teacher is not a "student first model"--it's a recipe for disaster. #nced #ncpol Research is clear that the most important driver of student learning is having an excellent teachers.

Today the NC State Board of Education will hear a recommendation from the #PEPSC Commission to approve a broad framework which would pave the way for switching all North Carolina teachers from an experience-based pay scale to merit pay. #nced #ncpol

simbli.eboardsolutions.com/SB_Meetings/Vi… This highly experimental move would make NC the first state in the country to stop compensating teachers based on their commitment to a career in the classroom and instead determine their pay through standardized test scores, evaluations, surveys, and "to be determined"

Update on merit pay for North Carolina teachers:

Today the PEPSC Commission met and, by a vote of 9-7, approved a "Blueprint for Action" which is the first step toward moving all North Carolina teachers from an experience-based pay scale to merit pay. #nced #ncpol You can see the vote breakdown below.
