Just spoke in @UKHouseofLords on the need for real Lords reform and for an electoral system which lets people get what they vote for. Just 43% of those who voted, supported the Conservatives at the last general election, but they won an 80 seat majority. Disastrous consequences. Only allowed two minutes to talk about reforming @UKHouseofLords and the need for #ProportionalRepresentation @electoralreform @UnlockDemocracy @MakeVotesMatter @BestForBritain @klinaj @PTylerLords @BylineTimes @peterjukes @openDemocracy @JRRT1904 Image

This classic voter suppression should never have been allowed to happen. Labour could have backed ⁦@LibDemLords⁩ in stopping this hugely costly (£180m) and unnecessary measure. Now we need to work even harder for the right to vote freely and fairly. bylinetimes.com/2023/02/10/vot… The scandal of voter suppression must become obvious theguardian.com/politics/2023/…

Labour are backtracking on opposition to compulsory photo ID at polling stations from next May. £180m over ten years to solve a problem which barely exists! Any concerns about identification could be achieved at nil or minimal cost. This is #votersupression #voterID Lib Dem opposition to spending £180m on making everyone have the requisite photo ID for elections from next May lost by 63 to 210.@LabourLordsUK abstained. This is letting the Conservatives get away with #votersuppression @LibDemPeers opposed it. Well done @KathPinnock

In a really shocking week, this is the most shocking story. Boris Johnson promised Parliament that the full report would be published. But the @thesundaytimes reveals that it was doctored by Downing Street officials. He lied to Parliament @RhonddaBryant #Partygate And so it goes on #tomorrowspaperstoday

The @UKHouseofLords votes overwhelmingly against Government plans which threaten the independence of the Electoral Commission. Amendment to delete them from #ElectionsBill carried by 265 to 199. @BestForBritain @UnlockDemocracy @electoralreform @LibDem4ER Well done to the 10 Conservative Peers who rebelled to help stop the Government taking control of the @ElectoralCommUK, including some prominent figures - see list: votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Lords/Di… @UnlockDemocracy @BestForBritain @electoralreform @LibDem4ER @guardian @MirrorPolitics

It cannot be right that a Prime Minister can grant high levels of access to a business seeking government support, and then potentially offer him over £20million in shares when he leaves office and presses his friends and colleagues to help the business. theguardian.com/politics/2021/…
