“It could have been me.”

In @multco, 59 ppl died from the record heat. Oregon’s death toll stands at 94.

Debora Fitzgerald lives in Holgate House, an affordable housing complex w/o AC. Management’s solution? Portable AC units in the garbage room. Debora stayed in her apartment. ImageImageImage The agency who owns Debora’s building, Home Forward, sent us a statement saying they “…planned extensively for this heat event & stayed involved with residents to provide cool spaces & resources ... If anything went wrong, staff members improvised to make sure ppl had options.” Image

HAPPENING NOW: @tedwheeler calls destruction amid last night’s #PDX protests “obscene” & the smashing of windows/attempts to burn (according to @ChiefCLovell) @OrHist “ironic”. Says he will never condone violence.

Watch here: kgw.com/mobile/article… .@OrHist exec director Kerry Tymchuk: most of damage limited to smashed windows. 3 flares thrown into museum scorched carpet, but no exhibits damaged.

One thing stolen: an African American heritage Bicentennial quilt, made by local Black women. Police found it blocks away, wet.

Months after a jury convicted him on all charges tied to the 2017 MAX stabbings, including 2 counts of first-degree murder, Jeremy Christian will be back in court today to be sentenced.

He faces the possibility of life in prison.

We’ll be streaming.
google.com/amp/s/www.kgw.… #UPDATE on today... the hearing has begun, w/ lawyers arguing over motions filed. Bulk of this surrounds whether the judge should consider the jury's "sentence enhancement factors". Could be difference between a "true life" sentence & the possibility of life w/ minimum of 30 yrs.

#Update & thread: Jeffrey wrote back while I was on live TV & told me to dress like a "normal woman". Gross. It was riddled with more misspellings, which I'm only slightly ashamed to say I reveled in 🙌 He's now reported to my managers & banned from my page. People have said to out him. I get the sentiment, but for me, that's not what this is about. Public female figures face this garbage from entitled, unhinged strangers a lot. My wonderfully supportive male coworkers are routinely baffled by it, as it's almost never a 2-way street.
