As Republicans perform mental gymnastics to convince us that it’s their constitutional duty to fill RBG’s seat with a lifetime SCOTUS appointment a month away from the election, citing precedent from the 1800s, it should be noted that a SCOTUS seat has NEVER been filled: ...
1/11 1) this close to Election Day;
2) during an actual election while people are already voting;
3) after the same Senate Majority Leader said just 4 years ago after a Justice died (over 250 days before the election) that the American people should decide after the election; 2/11

I have been screaming this for 4 years and yet there are still progressives who don’t want to vote for Biden.

Barrett means a deeply conservative 6-3 majority for years. Reproductive rights? Gone. Laws to prevent and mitigate climate change? Nope. DACA dreamers? Goodbye. #SCOTUS Healthcare? Not if this Supreme Court has anything to say on the issue.

My take: Healthy debate is important and should be welcomed if we want to improve our own party and the lives of Americans. But the Supreme Court (and the rest of the federal judiciary), climate change, Covid response, DACA, etc. are also really important and at stake this Nov. Look, I wanted Liz Warren to be the nominee; however, there is too much at stake for spite votes and/or non-votes. The Supreme Court is too important and will have long-lasting ramifications for women and minorities in this country. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

The Venn diagram of people who protested wearing masks with assault rifles as an infringement of their freedom and people who are currently fine with stormtroopers without name tags or badges throwing protesters into unmarked vans is one giant circle. Also included in this circle are proponents of the 2nd Amendment.

Now that Disney is reopening its theme parks to the general public, I wonder whether they’ll populate the Haunted House ride with the actual ghosts of those who died from COVID-19 after visiting. Subject to waiver and release signed upon entering the park. Read the fine print.

You mischaracterized my logic. And the reason for that is you don’t want to acknowledge systemic racism. If you did, you’d concede that, all other factors being equal between a white child and a black child, the black child faces additional obstacles merely due to his skin color. *her or his skin color

Sounds like this white child has had a hard life. However, the color of his white skin has not caused his hard life, nor has it made his hard life any harder. The same cannot be said about Black people in America. Next. Boy, so many deplorables in my mentions right now with poor grammar triggered by the fact that they’re white and privileged and yet still turned out the way they did. Sorry, I dunno, try reading a book? Good luck with all of that!

I believe Black Lives Matter. I believe systemic racism exists in the U.S. I believe Derek Chauvin intentionally murdered George Floyd. I also believe whoever murdered Captain David Dorn should be prosecuted for murder. These beliefs should not be mutually exclusive or partisan. Unfortunately, when I look at those sharing the story of Captain Dorn’s tragic murder, all I see are Trump supporters posting their “all lives matter” nonsense and nothing about justice for George Floyd or the extrajudicial killing of black people in this country by police.

Hey @nyknicks, do your fans and players know about Jim Dolan’s refusal to voice support for #BlackLivesMatter and to condemn systemic racism and police brutality? Because let’s be honest, you can’t be worried about ticket sales, no one wants to watch this team. #knicks #nba Image Seriously, could James Dolan be any more tone deaf?

To the “yeah, George Floyd’s death was wrong, but so are these riots” people, Dr. King was most disappointed in you, the “white moderates,” which he deemed the greatest obstacle to blacks in America: Image “[T]he Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to ‘order’ than to justice....”

I am still disturbed by the unprecedented actions of Barr as it relates to Flynn. His attempt to dismiss a case against a defendant who pled guilty to lying to the FBI will be remembered as the most partisan act in DOJ history.

Here are a few additional thoughts:
(Thread) First, the facts:

On the same day President Obama sanctioned Russia for interfering in our democratic election, Flynn contacted the Russian ambassador.

The DOJ obtained a transcript of that call. Flynn discussed the sanctions with the ambassador.

I served as a federal prosecutor for the Department of Justice. I do not recall a single instance of someone withdrawing a guilty plea and then having all charges dropped. This is pure political corruption by the top law enforcement official in the country, Bill Barr. #Flynn Seriously, can anyone point me to another case where a defendant pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, then worked out a deal with the Attorney General to withdraw his guilty plea unopposed, so that all charges would be dismissed by the DOJ? This is textbook corruption.

With Tara Reade’s claims, women are now forced to choose between 2 men accused of sexual assault. I’m not minimizing that choice, but it will do far more harm to women if we let Trump fill courts with conservative judges for 4 more years, or worse, appoint another SCOTUS justice. I would urge everyone, whether you support Bernie or anyone other than Trump, to focus on the courts, and especially, the Supreme Court. Reproductive rights are on the ballot (not to mention science and economic policies benefiting anyone besides corporations and the top 0.01%).

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but unless you’ve been living together before the COVID-19 pandemic, your “small social gatherings” or “quarantine communes” or whatever you call them DO 👏 NOT 👏QUALIFY 👏 AS 👏 SOCIAL 👏 DISTANCING! All you’re doing is guaranteeing that anyone who is asymptomatic will now pass the coronavirus to the entire group! So the number of infected persons has now doubled or tripled, etc. Unless you’re planning on living together for a while, you’ll now be carrying it wherever you go.
