The rescue crews are searching for remains in this destroyed shopping mall. It was hit by a Russian strike yesterday, where more than 1,000 people were inside, President Zelenskyy said. @RichardEngel is on the ground with the latest. A thread. Katherina finally took her first steps this week. She was shot by the Russians last month. “The bullets went through her back, the ribs, the lungs, the thighs” the mother said. “She suffered the most as she was covering her little brother.” She saved his life. Every day, more bodies are being uncovered in Bucha and other suburbs of Kyiv, recently liberated from Russian occupation. Ukraine has blamed Russian troops for atrocities that many are now call evidence of war crimes. @RichardEngel reports from Bucha.

“I heard a whistle and then I lost consciousness,” Andriy told @RichardEngel. A Russian bomb had hit his home. He woke up but was injured and he got into their car with his wife & daughter. Her last words before the car got hit “I’ll be with you forever”. Andriy’s daughter was injured and taken in by relatives. His wife was killed in the bombing, her body still remains in the car because it is too dangerous extract her, he says. “We weren't bothering Russia,” he said. “We are the same people. Attacks on the southern city of Mariupol have been brutal and unrelenting. This morning, Ukrainian officials, citing witnesses, claimed 300 people were killed in an airstrike on a theater nine days ago, making it the worst single atrocity since the war began.
