Ron Mazzoli was a good friend across generational divides for the same reason he was a great legislator across partisan ones: profound decency, great curiosity, unfailing positivity, and an earnest sense of purpose.

apple.news/A6A5aw48uTX6Px… As a fellow at Harvard’s IOP years after his time in Congress, Ron and his wife Helen befriended and mentored a new generation of students, showing us a completely different example than most of what we had seen on TV associated with being a “politician” growing up.

#HappyThanksgiving2021 This Thanksgiving, as so many more families are once again able to safely come together after last year’s isolation, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to be able to gather with loved ones.

The news and images from Iowa after this week's storms are devastating. Communities like Cedar Rapids were so welcoming to us through the last year, and now we can all show support for those who are hurting amid this terrible damage. #Derecho2020 If you're within reach of Iowa and able to help, please consider signing up to volunteer this weekend. The @UnitedWayCI is doing terrific work to help get people the support they need even during this time of social distancing:

Today I'm proud to endorse fellow Hoosiers who are effective leaders in their communities and have dedicated themselves to public service. They will make Indiana a more inclusive and prosperous state. .@DrWoodyMyers' intellect, integrity, and passion for helping Hoosiers are so needed in our politics—and his expertise and vast experience will serve us well in midst of a public health crisis. I'm proud to support his history-making candidacy to be our next Governor. Image

Once again, sincerely astonished at which positions @GOP Senators choose to double down on. Which experts? I don’t know, Senator, maybe the countless medical voices who could have saved you from making this obviously and humiliatingly false and dangerous statement? statesman.com/news/20200710/…

Our military is held together by trust. Those who serve trust one another to have their backs. We develop, and rely on, trust with allies and partners. And a level of basic trust binds the chain of command together, all the way to the top. The very structure of the military relies on the expectation and trust that every Commander-in-Chief, party and politics and policy aside, will hold sacred the responsibility for our troops’ lives and will make every decision with troops’ and the country’s best interest at heart.

Today, #SCOTUS has ruled that no LGBTQ American can be fired because of who they are or who they love. It was only 11 years ago this summer that I took an oath and accepted a job that I would have lost, if my chain of command learned that I was gay. Firing us wasn’t just permitted—it was policy.

For many of us, this must be a time for listening and learning as well as action. I'll seek to use my platforms to uplift organizations doing critical work. Join me in sharing, supporting and -- if you can -- donating to these organizations and efforts bringing change right now: .@bailfundnetwork is helping free people facing pretrial incarceration. This work was urgent before because of the pandemic -- and even more so today. bailfunds.github.io

There is a way to safely reopen by summer, and stay open. It won’t be easy but it can be done. ethics.harvard.edu/covid-roadmap It’s not a choice between continued economic anguish and accelerating widespread death. The way out is through massively increased Testing, Tracing, and Supported Isolation.

For action-oriented people, it’s difficult to accept that the most important thing we can do right now is stay home.

But #TeamPete doesn't sit idly by. So, if you can help, here are organizations focused on making sure our most vulnerable communities stay safe & healthy: .@domesticworkers is providing $400 in emergency assistance for qualifying home care workers, nannies, and house cleaners who are experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This allows these workers to stay home and stay safe.

Running for president doesn’t allow much time for reflection, but this morning at First Baptist Church of James Island in South Carolina came the chance to reflect on the humbling awareness of what is at stake for so many in this election. I know when I am asking Black voters to support me in this election, I am often asking people who have never met me to trust me with their lives. So many Black lives are at stake in the balance of what happens next in our country.

To those who questioned whether a Midwestern mayor could gather a national movement around a new kind of politics—your are the answer. And to everyone who believes in what we’re building—this is your night. This is your campaign. It belongs to the most talented, and energetic, and kind, team of organizers and volunteers, and to the nearly 1 million grassroots supporters who have chipped in—and yes, I hope you’ll join them and help us raise $13 million by Super Tuesday.

Later today, we are submitting our January fundraising report to the FEC. We raised $6 million the first month of this year, and an additional $11 million so far this month. This month, we won the Iowa Caucuses, and we came in second in New Hampshire—with just about 4,000 fewer votes from the sitting senator of the neighboring state. We’ve had some of our highest fundraising days, but frankly our numbers should have been better.

@NBCAsianAmerica The United States at its best has always been a beacon of opportunity for people around the world. It’s this hope for excellence and opportunity that brought my father to America. #AAPI2020 @NBCAsianAmerica Immigration is central to the American story. It’s time to reverse the cruel, counterproductive policies of this administration, welcome immigrants to our shores, and make sure that they can access every opportunity our country offers. #AAPI2020

I joined this race a year ago seeing how the last presidential election led to desolation and division. But after spending months on the trail bringing our message to millions, I saw firsthand the resilience of American families and the hope they carry for the future. Tonight, folks here in the Hawkeye State start caucusing for the person they think should be the Democratic nominee.

Right now, we’re the best-positioned campaign to win against Donald Trump, but the challenge we face is making it that far.

Every time Democrats have won the White House in the last half century, we’ve had a candidate who is focused on the future—one who hadn't been in Washington very long, if at all, and was opening the door to a new generation of leadership. We've got to galvanize, not polarize, the historic American majority that we have right now, in order to win and in order to govern and actually get big things done.

No region of our country is immune to the threats we face. A gig worker in California is struggling with the same tectonic shifts in our economy as a driver in South Bend or a nurse in South Carolina. An Iowa farmer fears the costs of climate change as much as a student in NY. From coastal cities to rural and industrial communities like mine, we are one nation. We are all at risk of a changing climate, an evolving economy, an unchecked gun lobby, politicians who put party before country, a president who divides us while putting himself above the law.

This is the most consequential election of our lifetimes.

And it's not just because we have to beat Donald Trump. He won by exploiting Americans’ anger at this broken system, which is why the riskiest thing we could do is go back to the same Washington playbook. #PeteOnFox We have to rally the American people to do things that have never been done before.

In the face of unprecedented challenges, it's more important than ever that we transcend the same old Washington fights of the past and put forward a vision for the future. #PeteOnFox
