On Jan. 15, Michelle Alyssa Go was tragically pushed to her death in front of an incoming train at the Times Square subway station by Martial Simon, a man suffering from schizophrenia.

This horrific event should never have taken place. It is time we acted to prevent these violent incidents by providing improved mental health treatment and beds to those in crisis. That’s why I am calling on Congress to pass my Michelle Alyssa Go Act now which allows facilities with more than 16 beds to be reimbursed by Medicaid.

At our @FSCDems hearing we examined the affordable housing crisis. In NY and across the country, rising interest rates are impacting homeowners, home buyers, and even renters. As mortgage rates have increased by nearly two basis points, the median home price rose by over $50,000. The monthly cost of home ownership which includes a monthly payment on a 30-year mortgage, property taxes, property insurance, mortgage insurance grew by at least $500 a month, but in some cases in metropolitan areas it's grown by over $1,000 a month.

@POTUS just signed into law the historic #InflationReductionAct. I was proud, after a lot of hard work, this legislation included many of the priorities which I have championed for years. 🧵 $3 billion to electrify the Postal Service delivery fleet.

$975 million to support the deployment of emerging and sustainable technologies to help reduce emissions and cut costs for taxpayers.

Right now, I am holding an @OversightDems hearing with the CEOs of two major gun manufactures. This hearing comes after a major investigation by the committee into the practices of gun manufacturers.

Today we released a report with some of our findings 👇 Our report shows that the gun industry has continued to make massive profits selling weapons of war to our communities. Companies like Daniel Defense and Ruger have amassed huge revenues selling AR-15 Style firearms, the weapon of choice for mass shooters.

No one should worry that their period tracking or other health app data might be used to locate them at clinics or create digital breadcrumbs of interest in an abortion.

I’m investigating, starting with asking major apps and data brokers to provide info to @OversightDems. A recent study found that 87% of the 23 most popular women’s health apps—including reproductive health apps—shared user data with third parties, yet just over 50% requested consent from their users.

The AR-15 style rifles used in Highland Park, Parkland, Aurora, and San Bernardino were made by @Smith_WessonInc.

I’m demanding their CEO attend our July 20 @OversightDems hearing. The AR-15 style rifle used by the gunman in Uvalde was made by @DanielDefense. The Las Vegas shooter was also found with four AR-15-style rifles from DD, including one outfitted with a bump stock and a 100-round magazine.

I've called on their CEO to testify to @OversightDems.

NEWS: My bill to make gun trafficking and straw purchases a federal offense just received its first Republican cosponsor, @RepKinzinger. I’m going to be fighting hard as hell to make sure he is not the last. Since last week, 29 more reps have joined my bill to prevent straw purchases and gun trafficking that I have been fighting for since 2011. I want to thank @RepCardenas, @RepBonamici, @RepBarragan, @repblumenauer, @RepBeatty, @RepCartwright, and @RepRaulGrijalva for joining!

Until there is a final decision, abortion remains legal.

But if Roe is overturned, millions would lose the right to abortion overnight, falling hardest on the Black, Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, & rural communities, young people, people w/ disabilities, & people w/ low incomes.🧵 Pregnant people will be forced to carry out their pregnancies, even in cases that put themselves or the baby at risk, or turn to unsafe & potentially deadly procedures.

We must codify the right to abortion into federal law before a final decision comes out. 2/4

For nearly 15 years, McKinsey consultants secretly designed strategies to boost sales of addictive painkillers, paving the way for an explosion of overdoses around the country.

At the same time the firm was also consulting for the FDA—which oversees the opioid industry. 🧵 According to the FDA, McKinsey never disclosed that it was also working for opioid companies, and was even using its influence at the FDA to win more private business.

By failing to disclose these conflicts to the FDA, McKinsey appears to have violated federal law.

A few months ago, I read this and wondered, how in the world did this guy buy 34 guns despite a court order?

Did he get them at a gun show? Did the background check take more than 3 biz days, allowing the purchase?

Nope. He found a loophole.

🧵on my new bill to prevent this The thought of an insurrectionist amassing this kind of arsenal was troubling, to say the least. So I asked my staff to look into it and see if there were any laws on the books that weren't being enforced or proposals we could sign onto to address this.

We couldn't find any. 2/

On the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, reproductive rights across the country are no longer just being chipped away at – they are being bulldozed straight into the ground. I refuse to stand silently by and watch that happen. #Roe49 #RoevWade Protecting reproductive rights has never been more important in our history than right now. We must fight for reproductive justice by protecting and expanding access to abortion, birth control, and all forms of reproductive health care and passing the ERA.

8:30 AM: Arrive at Capitol early on the advice of the US Capitol Police. I’m joined by two staffers and am prepared to stay until we complete the job we came to do — certifying the free and fair results of the election despite Trump's Big Lie. 9:30 AM: Join Democratic Caucus call to discuss the various possible objections to state certifications. We were prepared for every possible procedural maneuver House and Senate Republicans might have tried.

Tonight, I voted against the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

I cannot support continuing to explode the Pentagon’s budget above what is necessary and even asked for by POTUS, especially as legislation to help Americans recovering from the pandemic languishes. While this bill includes many positive reforms, like those to address sexual harassment and assault in the military, it also excludes much needed changes, like giving DC control over its own National Guard and stopping the transfer of military weapons to local law enforcement.

Yesterday, I released a new @OversightDems report on the need to allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and stop the American people from being ripped off by Big Pharma.

But, what about those who don't even have access to care in the first place? 🧵 As we talk about the importance of affordable drugs and healthcare, we also need to talk about the importance of ACCESS.

For too many New Yorkers and Americans across this country, healthcare remains out of reach because of access, in addition to cost obstacles.
