Until there is a final decision, abortion remains legal.
But if Roe is overturned, millions would lose the right to abortion overnight, falling hardest on the Black, Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, & rural communities, young people, people w/ disabilities, & people w/ low incomes.🧵
Pregnant people will be forced to carry out their pregnancies, even in cases that put themselves or the baby at risk, or turn to unsafe & potentially deadly procedures.
We must codify the right to abortion into federal law before a final decision comes out. 2/4

For nearly 15 years, McKinsey consultants secretly designed strategies to boost sales of addictive painkillers, paving the way for an explosion of overdoses around the country.
At the same time the firm was also consulting for the FDA—which oversees the opioid industry. 🧵
According to the FDA, McKinsey never disclosed that it was also working for opioid companies, and was even using its influence at the FDA to win more private business.
By failing to disclose these conflicts to the FDA, McKinsey appears to have violated federal law.

A few months ago, I read this and wondered, how in the world did this guy buy 34 guns despite a court order?
Did he get them at a gun show? Did the background check take more than 3 biz days, allowing the purchase?
Nope. He found a loophole.
🧵on my new bill to prevent this
The thought of an insurrectionist amassing this kind of arsenal was troubling, to say the least. So I asked my staff to look into it and see if there were any laws on the books that weren't being enforced or proposals we could sign onto to address this.
We couldn't find any. 2/

The Washington @Commanders can change their name, but that won’t change their history of workplace misconduct & sexual harassment.
Listen to the personal stories of former employees below.🧵
On the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, reproductive rights across the country are no longer just being chipped away at – they are being bulldozed straight into the ground. I refuse to stand silently by and watch that happen. #Roe49#RoevWade
Protecting reproductive rights has never been more important in our history than right now. We must fight for reproductive justice by protecting and expanding access to abortion, birth control, and all forms of reproductive health care and passing the ERA.

8:30 AM: Arrive at Capitol early on the advice of the US Capitol Police. I’m joined by two staffers and am prepared to stay until we complete the job we came to do — certifying the free and fair results of the election despite Trump's Big Lie.
9:30 AM: Join Democratic Caucus call to discuss the various possible objections to state certifications. We were prepared for every possible procedural maneuver House and Senate Republicans might have tried.
While the HALF-BILLION at-home, rapid tests will deservedly get the most attention, there is so much more in the president’s plans today.
Everything being announced👇

For nearly 3 years a dedicated team of staff on @OversightDems has been investigating Big Pharma’s pricing and business practices.
Today we're releasing our final report. Everything you need to know about how Big Pharma abuses our system for profit at the expense of patients👇
The companies we investigated raised prices 250+ times on the 12 drugs examined during the time they've marketed them.
Those drugs are now priced at a median of almost 500% ⬆️ than when they came to market.
Mallinckrodt’s drug H.P. Acthar is 𝟭𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬%⬆️THAN AT LAUNCH 2/

Tonight, I voted against the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
I cannot support continuing to explode the Pentagon’s budget above what is necessary and even asked for by POTUS, especially as legislation to help Americans recovering from the pandemic languishes.
While this bill includes many positive reforms, like those to address sexual harassment and assault in the military, it also excludes much needed changes, like giving DC control over its own National Guard and stopping the transfer of military weapons to local law enforcement.

Today, @VetAffairsDems Chair @RepMarkTakano and I released our findings on one of the most alarming & unlawful episodes of the Trump era by 3 Trump associates.
They tried to exert improper influence on the VA to implement a "hugely profitable" scheme.👇 newsweek.com/trumps-mar-lag…

Yesterday, I released a new @OversightDems report on the need to allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and stop the American people from being ripped off by Big Pharma.
But, what about those who don't even have access to care in the first place? 🧵
As we talk about the importance of affordable drugs and healthcare, we also need to talk about the importance of ACCESS.
For too many New Yorkers and Americans across this country, healthcare remains out of reach because of access, in addition to cost obstacles.
Our shocking findings confirm what patients have always known: Our system is unfair, unsustainable, and COSTS TAXPAYERS BILLIONS in lost savings.
Now we have Big Pharma's internal docs that show just how bad it is! 👇 1/7
Over just a 5 year period, if Medicare had secured the same deals as other federal health care programs that CAN NEGOTIATE, taxpayers would have saved $25.1B on JUST SEVEN DRUGS. 2/7

Let’s chat #BuildBackBetter! @POTUS ‘s Build Back Better Agenda is positively impacting American lives from education reform, to climate priorities, and beyond. Take a look with me at some of its key highlights so far: 1/7 🧵
Up first – childcare! @POTUS has already implemented the largest Child Tax Credit ever through the American Rescue plan, providing relief to working families. Most families are automatically receiving monthly payments of $250 or $300 per child! 2/7 whitehouse.gov/child-tax-cred…

First up, @TheFloatingHosp is slated to receive $925,000 to fund health care and IT upgrades to better meet the needs of the community, especially the vulnerable populations that rely on them for care.

Last year @SenWarren, @RepRobinKelly, & I requested @USGAO conduct a comprehensive study on the healthcare costs of gun violence to get a better picture of the price of inaction.
Today, Rep. Kelly, @SenMarkey, @RepCori, gun safety advocates, and I are releasing the results. 1/8
THE BIG TAKEAWAY: we spend at least $1 BILLION/ year on just the initial hospital costs of gun violence.
We still don't know the longer-term costs including readmissions, surgery, physical rehab, long-term care, mental health crisis care, counseling, and more. 2/8

Big Pharma's favorite talking point is that without the high prices they charge, they would not be able to produce life-saving drugs.
This is a lie.
Our 2-year @OversightDems investigation, started by the late Chairman Cummings, now has the internal docs showing why 🧵👇
1. From 2016-2020, the 14 biggest drug makers spent $56 BILLION more on stock buybacks and dividends than R&D.
$56B more to enrich execs & investors instead of developing & improving medications.
They're projected to spend $1.15 trillion on buybacks & dividends from 2020-2029.

Let’s take another look at some of the emails @OversightDems uncovered in our investigation of Trump's campaign to pressure the DOJ to overturn the election:
Mark Meadows, Italian vote changing satellites, Rudy Giuliani, and the Acting Attorney General🤯🧵
On Dec 30, 2020, Meadows emailed then-Acting Attorney General Rosen a translation of a document from an individual in Italy claiming to have “direct knowledge” of a plot by which American electoral data was changed “in coordination with senior US intelligence officials (CIA)” 2/7

I promised I would investigate Jan 6, regardless of the outcome of the impeachment or vote on a bipartisan commission.
This morning, @OversightDems, the Committee I chair, released new docs about Trump’s pressure campaign on DOJ to overturn the election.
What we found👇
On December 14, 2020—the day electors in each state certified the Electoral College votes—President Trump’s White House Assistant sent an email with the subject “From POTUS” to then-Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen. 2/
