Today is the 21st anniversary of my wife Shannon's last chemotherapy treatment after she was diagnosed and treated for colon cancer in 1999. Shannon - you are so courageous and the kids and I are so proud of you. It's a day that we will all remember, a day of success much different than the day of her diagnosis just a little over six months before that. We were a young couple with a 2-year-old daughter and didn't know what the future held...

It’s ridiculous for @SenatorDurbin to suggest that my support for @USPS is recent, when he says I’m advocating for them now because I’m “getting an earful from constituents.” Yes, I am speaking out now, but I’ve been a USPS advocate for years.

My statement on the House Democrats' partisan approach to police reform:

I am fully supportive of enacting police reform at the federal level, but the partisan process Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer have chosen will not lead to police reform being enacted into law. Democrats in the House refused to incorporate Republican input, while Democrats in the Senate declined many Republican offers to amend the JUSTICE Act. A partisan approach is the wrong approach.

As a staffer & now a Member, I’ve seen this committee work together to produce good, bipartisan federal highway bills, & I hope the tradition continues. Addressing the long-term sustainability of the Highway Trust Fund – continuing the status quo and relying on the fuel taxes as the primary source of funding for the Highway Trust Fund is not a long-term solution to the Trust Fund’s ongoing solvency issues.

The strength of our freight system, and Illinois’ position as the Nation’s premier freight hub, relies on a dependable system of highways, roads, and bridges. This is important because nearly every load of freight will be transported on a truck at some point in its journey.

Democrats seem intent on impeaching this president no matter the facts and again putting the cart before the horse. Impeachment is a very serious charge and will halt any progress on legislation important to my constituents. Late last night, Democrats canceled a hearing I was supposed to lead because of impeachment. It's already negatively impacting Congress' ability to get anything done. It's disappointing to me that Speaker Pelosi's impeachment ploy continues to be based on politics, not facts.

I was happy to join the Wade family, State Sen. Steve McClure, and @RepCD this morning as the Governor signed SB 946 to create a special license plate to raise money for pediatric cancer. Thank you to Kimberly, Jon, and Jacky Wade for their tireless efforts to honor Jonny’s life and save other children from pediatric cancer and to Steve and CD for their work to make this legislation happen on the state level.

It's great to have my Democratic colleague @RepLBR in #IL13 this week. She's here as part of the American Congressional Exchange through the Bipartisan Policy Center. Lisa represents Delaware at-large and last year, I visited her district. This is a great program that allows us to visit other members' districts to gain perspective & appreciation for our colleagues on the other side of the aisle. We've been discussing areas where we can work together: ag, transportation, growing our economy, & others.

Today’s meeting between Democrat leaders and President Trump is a good first step, but $2 trillion is going to require a pay-for if House leaders are serious about moving a bill forward this Congress. Ultimately, it’s Congress that will vote and House Leaders need to write and detail how they will pay for this.

Regulating the internet under a law that was written to regulate telephones that had dials and party lines is not the way we protect net neutrality. That's why I’m supporting three bills that allow the @FTC to ensure true net neutrality by:

✅Prohibiting blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization for internet trafficking
✅ Creating more transparency from internet service providers.

Yesterday at a @TransportGOP hearing, I discussed the best path forward on modernizing infrastructure at rural airports, like the ones in the 13th district, with witnesses from both the airline carriers and airports. @TransportGOP We all want airport improvements, more airlines serving regional airports, like the ones in my district, and more competition in the airline industry.

The FAST Act, which provided $281 billion for federal surface transportation programs, expires on September 30, 2020. @EleanorNorton @RepPeterDeFazio @RepSamGraves and I will work together to develop a long-term, bipartisan bill to reauthorize surface transporation programs.

I joined several of my colleagues in introducing the Mass Violence Prevention Act to combat mass shootings as the federal government has done with terrorism, drug trafficking, and child exploitation. We could create another law that does nothing but infringe on law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment right or we could create a system that could have stopped the last mass shooting and might stop the next.
