Thanks to pandemic benefits, Canada experienced a 18.9% drop in poverty between 2019 and 2020—the largest in decades. An extraordinary achievement in a national crisis. See my post here: bit.ly/3PvDnQB and below. 1/7
Poverty declined btw 2019 and 2020 in every province—the largest drop in MB and BC, the smallest in NL. MB and NS still have the highest levels of poverty and AB the lowest. But BC’s standing has much improved, moving from 7th to 2nd best in the space of a year. 2/7

Here are some findings from last Friday’s @StatCan_en June jobs report tracking women’s economic recovery. I will be posting a Research Note on “Behind the Numbers” shortly #canfem 1/8
Since April, women have recouped roughly one-third of Feb-Apr employment losses (35.8%). That’s an increase of 550,000 jobs since April. Core-aged women have posted larger gains than youth & older women. The recovery among men is more advanced across the board 2/8

This year Canada ranked 19th on the @wef ’s #gendergap20 report, up from our poor showing in 2016 (35th), down from 16th last year. Canada’s young women are the most educated generation in history, but they are still hitting the wall in the world of work and politics 2/6
