This is something I talked about endless times with my friend @AbelardoAlmazan The truth is the heart of the matter is that no matter how flashy and rimbombante the DEI statement of a school is, that school is never prepared or willing to be prepared for the kind of diversity immigrant teachers bring to the table.

There are many excellent orgs out there that are interested in my work yet they still misspell my name Yes, I’m Latina. Yes, I’m Chilean. Yes, my name is French. You know, there’s this thing called #immigration and my great grandfather happened to partake in it during the early 1900s. My name is French and my last name is too because of my heritage #langchat #earlylang #educolor

Mi gente, I am reposting myself because I have already been asked and seen posts from WL teachers talking about #blackhistorymonth and I have been asked if I have created a unit or resources.

So #langchat I want to make myself clear here. I don’t believe the history of accomplishments of BIPOC or any minoritized community should be relegated to a month. I believe the 🇺🇸 school calendar - the timeline in history books have been designed to do so #langchat #BlackHistoryMonth
