هناك مصلحة تركية مباشرة في وجود حكومة موالية لأنقرة في طرابلس من اجل ترسيم الحدود البحرية وإعطاء الشركات التركية عقود للتنقيب عن النفط واعادة الاعمار. و لكن استراتيجيا ترى تركيا أن توجدها في ليبيا يساعد أنقرة على توسيع نفوذها في منطقة الساحل الأفريقي.

تركيا تبرر تحركاتها باعتبارها مقارعة النفوذ "الاستعماري" الفرنسي في المنطقة والاستفادة من حالة الارتياب الافريقي من فرنسا و نزعتها و تاريخها الاستعماري.
