Here, here. Rather than debating the OGL 1.0's revokability maybe we should take WotCs hint that they want a bigger slice of the hobby they overwhelmingly dominate and move on to other games and systems. Maybe we should let 1/#dnd #ttrpg #DoneDND

pcgamer.com/dungeons-and-d… WotC keep all their versions of the OGL and move on to the myriad of other wonderful existing games or those that will rise out of this mess. Maybe it's time to let WotC's hubris dethrone the king. IMO there are too many awesome games to continue allowing D&D to be the hobby's 2/

Why do people get this so wrong. Fuck, we all know why... they act like someone is dispatching rainbow clad commandos to force compliance. Safety tools are an option. As someone who started playing these games back in 1977 and who had to sit at a table 1/ Where the drow monk mini was referred to as the "ni**er monk" old dinosaurs like this who take the "we didn't need that in my day" stance and anyone who uses them is weak can kiss my chocolate brown ass. The appeal to tradition argument, that "we've done it this way for so long2/

Here, here. I don't care for rqce or species. Have I used both in the context of ttrpgs, yep. Doesn't mean the game can't grow, as it did when it drops lower max Str for female characters, and many other problematic issues over the years. It's easy for white people do 1/ dismiss the issues that people of color have with race as a word, a concept, and more because white people don't get reminded about it on the daily. They " don't see what the big deal is" because they don't have too. But what's worse is that that they can't take into account 2/

🧵 as a historian I'll add that every generation has is hopes and fear, some of each come true. We were supposed to havr flying cars and cities in the sky by the 21st century. On the flipside people were building fallout shelters in the 50s fearing nuclear war was inevitable. 1/ One thing that has changed is that humanity has access to the largest repository of information in human history, with few to no filters (depending on where one lives) and very little to know training in how to access and verify that info. Studies have shown that access has 2/

I know they're trying, but they keep missing the mark. Addressing the issues baked into D&D will take more than just changing a few words here or there. Yes, race is a very loaded word, and tbh I suspect many will keep using it despite the change. But what's needed here is a 1/ ground up rebuild of the way D&D addresses humans, orcs, tieflings, and all the rest and especially the way it has and currently deals with mixed characters. Honestly, @ChrisPerkinsDnD @JeremyECrawford really should consider putting together a working group with strong BIMPOC 2/

So heading into the midterms and 2024 the GOP is going to keep selling the narrative that recent post pandemic spikes in crime are due to the defund the police movement, restorative justice efforts, and anti police sentiment. Yes, we've seen 1/

How many have heard of Parzival? In Wolfram von Eschenbach's epic poem written in the early 13th century the half brother of the titular character is named Feirefiz. Described as having skin like a magpie or parchment with writings on it, Feirefiz is the son of Parzival's 1/ father and an African queen. Some scholars think that von Eschenbach may have seen someone with vitiligo and though it was the result of a interracial pairing. Nevertheless, Feirefiz is described as handsome and many of the ladies of the court swoon. Eventually he and his 2/

So I've picked up a bunch of new followers in the last few days so I just wanted to give all a fair warning. I teach history and humanities related to Modern Sub-Saharan Africa, US history, especially as it relates to marginalized groups, pop culture, film, tabletop 1/ roleplaying games, and a bit of South Asia. I also study and work on how fiction influences and is influenced by real-world thought. I talk RPGs and link past events to modern oppression, discrimination, and privilege. So things can and will get "political" up in here 2/

Worldbuilding tip: let's talk about the banality of evil. The term comes from political theorist Hannah Arendt who after watching the trial of Nazi SS officer Adolf Eichmann in 1961 noted that sometimes vile things are the result 1/. #ttrpg #ttrpgfamily #dnd of bureaucrats dutifully obeying orders. Scene chewing unabashedly "evil" antagonists and "relatable" "sympathetic" villains can be fun, but allow me to offer some alternatives. The trope that evil needs to be on the extremes has many problematic aspects, from indicating that 2/

Speaking as a certified firearms safety instructor and propmaster on a few student and indie films, several rules had to be broken for this to happen. Sadly, I can say sight unseen any one of those rules would have prevented this. Disregarding them all 1/

So my professor of marginalized studies hat just went on. For those following the new TSR thing I'd suggest a few points of further education. 1st people use the word and concept of Intersectionality without really understanding it all the time. They conflate intersectional 1/ with non-marginalized identities. Being a nerd and getting bullied for it is not a marginalized identity. The overwhelming majority of TTRPGs players in the early years were white men who despite being picked on had systemic power. The argument that nerdy (or poor 2/
