Not a great day to be a bank in the United States.

There is now widespread fear, if not yet panic, over bond market losses at all mid sized US banks. What exactly is happening?

Basic fact: banks hold less than 1% of liabilities (ie your deposits) as physical cash.🧵 Banks are over exposed to bonds. That is problematic in a market with rising rates such as 2022-23. Rising rates means falling bond prices. In a liquidity crunch you sell bonds at a loss. Someone has to cover the loss: shareholders, clients, tax payers.. or the bank goes bust. /2

1. Clear evidence of fraud by Trump. We now know exactly why he didn’t want his tax returns released. I would not be surprised to see him do a deal with the southern district of ny to avoid jail time for tax fraud after leaving office. nytimes.com/interactive/20… 2. The fraud is clear. You can not claim a complete write off of an abandoned business if you get something back from bankruptcy. Trump wrote off $700m (resulting a refund worth $100m in today’s dollars) but then got a piece of the casinos out of bankruptcy. That’s fraud.
