Canada has never seen the Emergencies Act invoked.
Its predecessor, the War Measures Act, was by Pierre Trudeau during the October crisis in 1970
The old act was replaced in 1988 by the Emergencies Act, which put many limits on the sweeping measures under WMA #cdnpoli Within seven days the Trudeau government will have to present a plan to Parliament for how it will use the Emergencies Act. The House and Senate need to confirm.
The powers the Feds could gain will be temporary, only for 30 days. #cdnpoli

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh wants the Prime Minister to reach out to municipalities and provinces affected by convoy protesters to look at ways to help to solve this problem.
I'll note Federal ministers have been in talks for some time with Ottawa about this & RCMP sent officers Singh also says the Trudeau government should investigate foreign interference in this protest.
Ottawa Police have said they are working with national and international security agencies to investigate the funding and organization of this protest.

Ottawa Public Health has updated its guidance for staff on COVID testing.
It is now telling them to advise people who can’t get a timely COVID test to “assume that they are infected with Omicron and self isolate immediately for 10 days.” 1/5
