As #COP27 reaches a (fraught) finale in Sharm el-Sheikh, a short 🧵 on the state of climate mis-/disinformation and our findings from the @caadcoalition Intelligence Unit:

1) The events of 2022 have turbocharged an already well-funded and transnational ecosystem for disinfo… 2) Russia’s war in Ukraine and the subsequent disruption to energy supply chains have spurred new (or revived old) anti-climate attacks - related content is trending in online communities everywhere from the US and Brazil to Germany and Australia.

There is a lot of noise in the UK about a #NetZero referendum, largely fuelled by high-vis pundits like Nigel Farage and groups like Net Zero Watch pushing the narrative on GB News, talkRADIO, The Sun etc. @ISDglobal has been monitoring this closely since COP26 and can reveal👇 There is *no parallel interest* evidenced across social media. The latest report from @EP_Democracy has just been passed and formally recognises the threat of #climate mis- and disinformation. I believe it's the first time any policymaking body has adopted such language, and directly builds on efforts by @ISDglobal and our partner coalition. @EP_Democracy @ISDglobal Article 148. "Emphasises the urgent need to address climate mis- and disinformation; welcomes the efforts at COP26 to adopt a universal definition of climate mis- and disinformation and to outline actions to address the matter;"
