A brand new parody Twitter account that paid for verification and chose the display name of ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Josh McDaniels was fired. The credible-looking tweet received nearly 10,000 engagements. Twitter suspended the account after two hours. snopes.com/fact-check/jos…

THREAD: Here are the stories I've published so far for @snopes on #ElectionDay.
First, here are data+sources for each election year going back to 2000 showing all votes did NOT used to be counted by election night. Share with conspiracy-prone friends. snopes.com/fact-check/ele…
Second, a false rumor about Sharpie pens and Illinois ballots was going around on Twitter this morning.
The Illinois State Board of Elections (@illinoissbe) tweeted the facts: "Sharpies are an approved ballot marking device for many voting systems." snopes.com/fact-check/sha…

1/ Facebook and @Meta continue to allow false and potentially defamatory posts about @Jeopardy host @missmayim to be promoted as paid ads on its platform, despite the fact that we notified the company last week. The company is profiting off of these ads. snopes.com/news/2022/04/0…2/ All of the ads use the same text. Despite this, Meta, which brings in billions in revenue every quarter, is seemingly unable or unwilling to set something up to automatically flag ads that use these words: "Jeopardy fans are up in arms over the allegations pending against..."

1/ A brief thread. In the aftermath of the Rittenhouse verdict, meet "Renata Trump," a Facebook account with the username "renata.lewandowski.3." The account is an admin in the group named AMERICA NEEDS PRESIDENT TRUMP. The group's founder is deceased. snopes.com/news/2021/11/1…2/ In another Facebook group named James Woods for Gov of California, a user named Drastic Bombastic posted "USA!" about the acquittal. The same account previously published election disinformation and likes a majority of Russian-language pages in Belarus. snopes.com/news/2021/11/1…

(THREAD) YouTube has removed multiple verified channels named “Fox News” and “Fox News Alert” following an Oct. 1 Snopes investigation that found they were pumping out disinformation to millions of subscribers. These channels were not managed by Fox News. snopes.com/news/2021/10/0…1/ All of the YouTube channels posted long video clips from Fox News Channel. However, the thumbnails were altered to make it look like U.S. President Joe Biden was either dying or going to jail and that former U.S. President Donald Trump was coming back. snopes.com/news/2021/10/0…

(THREAD) Ahead of the #60Minutes interview with the Facebook whistleblower, know this:
We contacted Facebook multiple times ahead of Jan. 6 to warn about violent rhetoric in a group with members that planned on taking matters into their own hands. snopes.com/news/2021/02/1…1/ Facebook did not respond to us, despite multiple attempts to reach the company for comment.
We contacted the company warning them of the violent rhetoric and organizing that we saw, and we sent our emails in the days both before and after Nov. 3, which was Election Day.

(THREAD) These private Facebook groups that concentrate on anti-mask discussion about schools really are something else. They all appear to ignore the fact that both adults and children are being hospitalized and are suffering. Facebook employees make these groups possible.
1/ Group member claiming to be a parent says they moved from New York to Tennessee to escape "tyranny." Once they arrived, Tennessee had implemented measures to keep people safe, which apparently clashed with this person's views.

One mistake by a likely Russian FB account lit a match that illuminated a mountain of evidence.
The account was an admin in a PA for Trump group from 2016 thru this month.

The mistake made by the likely Russian account, an admin in a Pennsylvania for Trump Facebook Group, was that it appeared to have accidentally liked the page Молекулярная диагностика 2020. This was the only Russian page out of hundreds of page likes.

1/ NEW from me via @snopes. A likely Russian admin was active in a Pennsylvania for Trump Facebook Group since before the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and just disappeared this month after we contacted FB with questions. bit.ly/31Kegna#Election20202/ The Facebook admin account's activity paralleled descriptions of fake personas mentioned in the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee's report on Russia's efforts.
Following Trump's 2016 victory, the account defended Russia from accusations of foreign interference.

1/ NEW from me tonight via @snopes. Facebook appears to have quietly removed at least three pro-Trump FB groups. #Election2020
1. Trump Train 2020, Red Wave: 1.1 million members 2. Candace Owens: 523,000 members 3. Ivanka Trump (Official): 14,000 members
bit.ly/33YrFbH2/ All 3 Facebook groups appeared to engage in coordinated inauthentic behavior, whether with fake accounts in admin slots, or with duplicate accounts with the same person having several accounts that were all admins.
1/ NEW from me via @snopes: The Macedonian-run Facebook group Kayleigh McEnany OFFICIAL had 456,000+ members.
FB told us it "used compromised accounts to mislead people about its origin."
More uncovered pages appear in tweet 3 in this thread.
snopes.com/news/2020/09/1…2/ Right now, 3 of the accounts that managed the group are still available on Facebook. One of them is named Elisabeth Kim, but features a profile photo of a woman with a name tag that says "Marti Jordan."
Kayleigh McEnany OFFICIAL was removed just weeks ahead of the election.

1/ For one example of just how badly @Facebook has prepared for this election year, TWO YEARS AGO I tweeted quite a lot about a "Sarah Huckabee Sanders Supporters" Facebook group that has fake account admins.
It's still there TWO YEARS LATER.
facebook.com/groups/7514539…2/ I reported the group at the time, as well as the admins, but little or nothing was actually done.

1/ Content hosted by social media companies is contributing to the deaths of so many people for years now, and they won't change their ways because they're basically saying "enough people have not died yet for us to care to enact real change on our platforms."
2/ They allow far leaning grifters (the worst of us all) and countless fake accounts with American flag emojis to peddle and elevate harmful bullshit.

1/ A militia-style page called "Wisconsin Revolution" is still up on Facebook right now: facebook.com/WisconsinRevol….
The page promoted the “Armed Citizens to Protect our Lives and Property” event reported on by @CraigSilverman and @RMac18 via @BuzzFeedNews. #Kenosha2/ Second, the page promotes fundraisers for a kid who is charged with killing two people.
Third, the page promotes jokes about the killings and appears to treat the kid who killed the two people as a hero.

1/ It appears that the Twitter account @BrianKolfage is no longer available.
Kolfage, @SteveKBannon, and two others were charged last week by @SDNYnews and @TheJusticeDept "for their roles in defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors" for #WeBuildTheWall. 2/ Kolfage is still active on Instagram, just in the last 24 hours posting public videos on IG Stories showing family at what appears to be their home.
He said in an Instagram comment late last week that he intends to hold a press conference over the next several days.

1/ I think about this all the time. Why do far right American bloggers not extensively cover how Facebook is plagued by coordinated inauthentic behavior involving far right content on Facebook pages and in groups that are run from Russia, Ukraine, Kosovo, etc?
2/ Wouldn't they want to call this out and say over and over that it needs to be stopped? When a "Blue Lives Matter" page with 100% American police officers memes is run from Kosovo, but claims to be run from the United States, do they not see this as a problem?

1/ Facebook hosts hate.
Here a Facebook user named Keith posted his Nazi flag along with another swastika.
1/ I keep thinking about a few things in regard to everything happening right now with #BlackLivesMatter.
2/ Seems to be a lot of pickup truck drivers with facial hair and sunglasses who take selfies while sitting in the driver's seat who consistently have issues with Black people who are in the news.
There might be a word for that kind of person.
