Today’s “city deal” funding announcements for projects in my electorate, such as the new Gabba bus station & Kangaroo point foot/bike bridge are welcome, but the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. The Morrison-Joyce government has consistently shown they are all announcement, no delivery.

This tendency has been evident with other “city deal” announcements, in other states, made before the last federal election.

Some facts about dams for @couriermail

Labor doesn’t oppose dams.

The Libs and Nats have been in office for almost a decade. They said they would build 100 dams. Guess how many they’ve opened? Scottsdale Irrigation System, in Tassie, a project that commenced its planning under Labor, has a small dam.

That is the only dam that has been commissioned under the current government, in their near-decade.

Just the one. Not 100.

Good morning everyone.
I'm sure you're checking the BOM alerts and/or the app.
They're saying there were some renewed river and creek rises earlier yesterday with the storms.
.../ And they're expecting less rain today, which is terrific, but with the river and creeks being so swollen, additional rain can still contribute to river/creek rises.

With the revelations and allegations of the past few weeks it has never been clearer that we need women in politics. Not just a few, but a critical mass.

../ Political culture is affected by the makeup of the parliament, the staffing corps, and the press gallery, and beyond that into party structures and activism.

The Auditor-General’s report into strategic water entitlements procurement came out today.

#water #cewh #auditorgeneral #auspol #auspolitics #australianlabor #australianlaborparty #scottyfrommarketing #environment #environmentalwater This is the report that was prompted by multiple calls for an investigation into, among other things, an $80 million purchase of water entitlements from a company that had links to Coalition MP and Minister Angus Taylor.

Memo to the Aus: it’s possible to be working-class & also think being gay shouldn’t stop a person from getting married.

Capricornia, Dawson, Herbert & Leichhardt all voted yes for marriage equality.

That’s not an obsession with “identity politics,” it’s just decency. I grew up in 3-bed besser block house in Cairns. I was the first in my family to finish high school, let alone go to uni.

Nowadays, my mum’s a teachers aide and my dad’s a hospital wardie.

I’ve had opportunities in my life previously unthinkable to working class kids like me.

Look, if you’re feeling self-satisfied because you preselected on merit, and not using quotas, try this simple method of checking the success of your merit-based processes. First, check your assumptions. Have you assumed women have as much merit as men? If no, perhaps revisit your assumptions.
