The most important thing to understand about the climate and ecological emergency, is that profound and radical change, is coming whether you like it or not. That change might come far sooner, than most people, almost everyone, envisages.
1/🧵
"There are now no non-radical futures. The choice is between immediate and profound social change or waiting a little longer for chaotic and violent social change. In 2023 the window for this choice is rapidly closing." @KevinClimate

"And change is coming, whether you like it or not." - @GretaThunberg

I'm now absolutely certain, that hardly anyone understands what this means.

Something I want to appreciate Maresca for is his tactical aggressiveness. Chelsea committed to attack aggressively. The set up apart from the 3-1-6 included a very aggressive rest defense.

The 3-1 base would step up to suffocate Fluminense to pin them deep and have a compact counter-press structure ready once there was a turnover.

Furthermore, the ball-sided wide center-back (Chalobah/Cucurella) had the license to push forward and support the winger and attacking midfielder. Caicedo also pushed up to offer a passing angle.Image

I wanted to point this out because although Maresca gets categorized as a coach who wants control, which is true, it shouldn't be misunderstood for absolute conservatism.
There are coaches like Arteta, who don't use an aggressive in-possession system. For example, Arsenal often last season did not have enough players through the middle and preferred to move the ball out wide before attacking the fullback or delivering a cross.

The primary reason for this is - rest defense.

THREAD: Why is antifascism fading from Europe's official memory, while anti-communism is rising?
And what does this shift mean for democracy, the far right, and the future of political possibility?

Let's talk about memory politics — and how it shapes power.
After 1989, Europe didn't just “move on” from communism.
It rewrote its memory.
Across parliaments, museums, schools, and courtrooms, a new consensus emerged: Liberal democracy defeated totalitarianism — and the past became a morality play.
This shift was strategic.
Anti-communism became not just a judgment of past regimes but a foundation for post-Cold War identity.
The result?
A memory regime that treats communism and fascism as equally evil.
A framework called the “Double Genocide” thesis.

Telugu surnames and what do they mean exactly.

Unlike other parts of India, for Telugus surnames, are not identified with a caste per se, though there are some surnames specific to a caste.

For us surnames mean family names, which are based on various factors.

Typically for Telugus the naming convention is Family Name+ Real name, the caste name is usually optional, it's not binding.

So unless someone explicitly tags their caste name , it is hard to make out from which community they are just on basis of surname.
Telugu family names are usually based on various aspects, but typically there are around 11 categories.

The most common family names are those related to one's ancestral village or town.

For eg writer , social reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam, though born and grew up in Rajahmundry, his ancestors were from Kandukuru. Or freedom fighter Tanguturi Prakasam.

Surnames like Bellamkonda, Deverakonda, Ponduru, Chittapuram, Gunupudi, all indicate the ancestral village or home town which is taken as family name here.
Other category is surnames based on geographical features, nature like Adivi( Forest), Samudrala( Coast), Pasupuleti( yellow colored stream), Thota( Garden). These family names indicate a close bond with nature.

There are family names related to flora and fauna too, like Akula( Leaves), Jonna, Jonnalagadda( millets), Gandham( Sandalwood), Miriyala( pepper), Avula( cows), Gurram( horse), Pamula, Naga( snakes) to name some.

🚨We've updated our preprint "Frustration, Dynamics, and Catalysis" ✨

A short 🧵1/8: We expanded the conceptual connection between the energy landscapes theory and catalysis, added new figures, and clarified how local frustration shapes enzyme function.
arxiv.org/pdf/2505.00600Image
2/8
Proteins aren't perfectly optimized machines, they’re frustrated. But that’s a good thing.
This review explores how local energetic frustration enables flexibility, catalysis, and evolvability, rather than locking proteins into rigid forms.
3/8
🧠 What is local frustration?
It’s when some interactions in a folded structure are energetically "suboptimal", leading to competing conformations (Conformational Substates or CS).
These CS enable functionally important motions (FIMs) needed for catalysis. Image

Millimeter radar as a tool for identity control – what does "Multimodal Fusion" really mean?

📡 Research title:
Millimeter-Wave Radar-Based Identity Recognition Algorithm Built on Multimodal Fusion
🔬 Authors: Jian Guo, Jingpeng Wei, Yashan Xiang, Chong Han Image

Image
🏛 Institution: Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China
📖 Source: MDPI, open access

What exactly does this title mean?

It refers to the development of artificial intelligence algorithms that enable the recognition of people's identities without their consent,
using millimeter waves—a technology that works through clothing, walls, fog, and even without optical cameras.

➡️ "Multimodal Fusion" refers to the combination of different sensors: radar, infrared, optical, sound, motion, biometrics – all in a single person recognition system.

The sheer weight of Russian social media propaganda is a thing to behold. Boris Rozhin, aka the warblogger colonelcassad, posted over 33,000 times on Telegram in 2023. It's relentless.
Of course, it's AI, it's automated, it's bots. But imagine that scale of posting multiplied by hundreds and thousands of accounts. No wonder the internet is flooded with shit - and no wonder half your family swallows Russian propaganda hook, line, and sinker.
With the scale it's operating on, Russian propaganda doesn't have to be Machiavellian and it doesn't have to be clever. It just batters away, relentlessly creating its own distorted world, and relentlessly sucking all of us in.

Yesterday, the OBR released its Financial Risks Report that old us about the dire state of the public finances. The OBR also told us that Net Zero would cost the public purse £803bn out to 2050. But part of their analysis relies on fake numbers from the CCC. A thread🧵 (1/n)
The public cost of Net Zero is made up of lost tax revenue and increased spending and the overall cost at 21% of GDP is down from 29% the OBR's last report (2/n) Image
Public expenditure is at 6% of GDP is some 5 points down on their prior estimates driven by “the CCC’s downward revisions to the whole-economy costs of transition.” (3/n)

Nigeria just got handed a ₦1.7 trillion wealth creation opportunity.

And 42 million Nigerians can tap into it, with zero connections.

You simply need sense and action.
Aliko Dangote just changed the game.

He’s investing ₦720 billion in 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks

To distribute fuel directly across Nigeria.
From August 15, petrol and diesel will now reach filling stations and factories, without middlemen.
This move will save Nigeria over ₦1.7 trillion yearly.

Fuel prices may drop.
MSMEs will pay less for energy.
And 15,000+ new jobs will be created.

But here’s what most people won’t see:

This isn’t only about Dangote.
It’s about you.
