Despite the weekly and sometimes heated discussions, SEO has come a long way in the last few years, for the better. It's not perfect but no industry is.

A few rambling thoughts/observations.

Google has given us access to more Googlers, a much improved Google Search Console and greater actionable guides and comms. Credit to @JohnMu, @g33konaut, @danielwaisberg and team.
The role diversity within SEO has expanded. For most large websites there is no longer just one SEO. There will be SEOs each with specialist skills or defined roles. This creates job opportunity and variety.

A4: Most people tend to bang the "benefits, features + functions" drum in the MoM -- but IMO that's misguided. Focus on getting people to engage + self-select, then tailor. It's less "throw content at the wall" and more "play tennis with the prospect" #SEMrushChat
A4.1: The goal should be to obtain relevant information from the prospect, then use that to provide the prospect with greater value, tailored to their needs.

Generic whitepapers suck. A quiz, followed by a checklist and educational video sucks less.

A4.2: The other part - which NO ONE talks about - is getting people who aren't right to self-select OUT. MoM content should be as much about pruning non-viable prospects as it is about nurturing and building relationships with viable prospects.

A4.1: The only "rule" I can think of for this is, "it depends" -- what is your brand? What is your target audience? What social/political issues? It *can* make sense, but it can just as easily alienate you from your target audience if not done correctly.

A4.2: Likewise, the last thing many brands want is to be pulled into a national debate or targeted by certain elected officials for expressing their viewpoints -- which is certainly a possible outcome for engaging in overtly political debate. #semrushchat
A4.3: But, where there's a risk, there's also a potential reward. For an upstart brand, or a brand with a clear, defined target audience that's overwhelmingly invested in a specific social/political issue, taking a stand can foster loyalty + new customer acquisition. #semrushchat

2. Make sure you *actually* know what you're talking about first; you can't fake it 'til you make it when you're talking to people with deep expertise in a niche area

4. Focus on adding value, not selling stuff -- you don't need to beat people over the head who are already interested.
5. Remember Reddit has a different intent level than search or display or social. Treat it more like @Quora, less like FB

6. If you're going to invest in Reddit (or Quora, for that matter), it's not a hit-it-and-quit-it kinda thing. Be ready to commit the time + talent to be part of a community.
7. Don't expect Reddit ads to pay off in a month or 2 -- remember intent levels.
