In 2018, 1 in 5 attempts by our volunteers to register a patient with a GP practice were wrongly refused for reasons that contradict #NHS Guidelines. #PatientsNotPassports
The reasons for refusals, with lack of paperwork as most common issue, show that already #vulnerable people, such as destitute people without fixed accommodation or undocumented #migrants, are likely to be disproportionately affected.
#GP practices are also inconsistent in their approach to registering patients, with 17% of practices agreeing to patient registrations in some cases and refusing in others.
At our clinic, despite trained volunteers advocating for registration on patients’ behalf, the rate of registration refusal is worryingly high. What happens when vulnerable patients approach #GP surgeries themselves? @mslucyjones
