1) The #OperationPeaceSpring started with heavy firepower, which also paid-off at the initial stage of #OperationOliveBranch back in 2018. The #Turkish military has gained significant experience in fighting hybrid threats throughout its cross-border efforts in #Syria.
2) Artillery & multiple-launch rocket systems have been pounding PKK / YPG militant positions along the border. The #TurkishAirForce penetrated into the #Syrian airspace up to some 30km.
Notably, the air-ground operations extended up until the #Syrian - #Iraqi border areas. The air force can generate high sortie rates for keeping up high operational tempo thanks to #Turkey's air-basing posture.
3) The initial target set includes arms depots and defensive positions of the PKK / YPG militants, paving the ground for a follow-on offensive.
Open-source intelligence suggest that the PKK / YPG militants are trying to launch sporadic unguided rocket attacks, and infiltrating in the civilian populace for disguise & as a part of further information ops and disinformation attempts.
4) The indigenous component of the campaign, #Turkey-backed #SyrianNationalArmy #SNA, is currently engaging in fierce fighting close to #Manbij.
