Another boat with 45 people in distress! When we received their GPS position we informed authorities at 18:35 CEST. We demand the immediate launch of a rescue operation by #Malta. Do not endanger lives! The rescued must be brought to a place of safety - and that's in #Europe.
It took almost 2,5h to reach #Malta! The people on board are desperate, they demand help as fuel is low, water is entering and it's dark at sea. "Many people are sick, we are afraid also about the women and children".
Don't let them drown!
The people are still at sea,! We are in constant contact, last time at 7:52 CEST. We called MRCC Rome and RCC Malta several times with update of position and the situation on board. #Malta & #Italy do not respond to our alerts. #Europe, take responsibility!
The people in the boat suffered the whole night, their SOS is constantly ignored by European authorities. Now they reach #Lampedusa - and still in every moment a tragedy at sea could happen.

We sent the GPS position to the authorities 4 times, informing them of the urgent distress, including the serious condition of pregnant women and children. While European authorities in #Malta & #Italy were unresponsive for hours, the #migrants reached #Lampedusa by themselves.
While we are relieved, we condemn these EU politics of non-assistance. The bodies of the last shipwreck off Lampedusa are still being searched for: #Europe how many lives do you want to take before creating #safepassage? We hope they are ok and that their rights are now respected
