#Srirangam Temple -Ranga Vimana
(Gold Tower) above the sanctum is
shaped in the form of an Om. On the 4 sides of Ranga vimana are carvings of four forms of Vishnu. South side :- Para-Vasudeva; on the west - Acyuta, on the north Ananda, & on the east Govinda.

There are series of paintings, illustrating the story from Sriranga Mahathmiyam in the #Temple premises.

Sri Ranganatha was first worshiped by Brahma in Satyalok,on the banks of Viraja River. Brahma asked Surya Dev to perform regular pujas to the deity.

The deity with Ranga vimana was later given to Suryavanshi King Ikshvaku to worship in Ayodhya after his penance.Later Rama has gifted this to Vibishina after Coronation .Vibhishana proceeded to carry the deity south to Sri Lanka.

On his way Vibhishana placed the deity on ground at Srirangam, on the bank of Chandra Pushkarani tank.Unable to lift,since that time SriRanganatha has stayed at Srirangam.The deity faces south, instead of traditional east, so as to grace Vibhishana & his kingdom in Srilanka.

King Dharmavarma of chola dynasty built temple for Sri Ranganathar in Srirangam.Many hundreds and thousands of years have passed.The temple, once built by the Dharmavarma,Over time completely disappeared with wild forest, nothing reminded me that once there was a temple.

Once a distant descendant of King Dharmavarma Chola was hunting in those places. Tired, he lay down to rest under a tree and suddenly heard a parrot that repeated a verse in Sanskrit.

That night, Ranganatha appeared to him in a dream and told him that the sacred viman was hidden exactly in the place where the king heard the song of the parrot. He restored the temple,after which the worship of the Sri Ranganathar resumed.

In gratitude to the parrot for pointing out the place of the lost temple, the king ordered to build a hall with columns in his honor. This hall still exists in Sri Rangam Temple complex and is called Kili-mandap.
