Fine words. Great aims. I give you the 'ten point plan for a green industrial revolution' from the UK Government. Pity #DeedsNotWords is needed in a #ClimateEmergency. A* for ideas, E- for delivery, year after year after year after year.... #COP26Glasgow
gov.uk/government/pub…
Its all "Could". #DeedsNotWord #ClimateEmergency
'Advancing Offshore Wind'. We need to do 'everything now'. We are more than 10% of the way to 2030.
'Low Carbon Hydrogen' has 'hope' as well as 'could'. Just get on with it! #DeedsNotWords assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl… If its so good lets see some #ClimateActionNow!
'New and advanced nuclear' (because who wants nuclear that isn't advanced) is a 'could' section. The best thing they can say is that JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER TYPE OF POWER it's 2GW of power is fine for about 2 million low CO2 homes. #DeedsNotWords #ClimateEmergency
The 'shift to zero emissions vehicles'. This one has some strong 'will's' in it. I guess this is because the Gov have lost control of this and USA, EU and Chinese companies are making it happen anyway. I'm watch the 'will' sections carefully. #ClimateEmergency #DeedsNotWords
In the short term how about speed limits for internal combustion cars, vans and lorries, to limit their emissions. We have low emission zones, having dragged our feet for so long, it's only be a matter of time until we have to slow the fossil sunlight motors to increase economy.
'Getting us to walk, cycle or use the bus' is massively more than a few (4,000) BEV buses.
Dubious about savings. If the buses start to arrive in 2021 and the walking and cycling increments do too, then why do we have to wait until 2023-2032 for saving? Durrr. #DeedsNotWords
Ooo, 'jet zero' and 'green ships'. Starts well "Taking action on ...", "future proofing ...", "... cement our position ...". To summarize: Do nothing, eventually do nothing, its all too hard and they are too strong to argue with. #DeedsNotWords #ClimateEmergency
'Greener buildings'. Whopping 71MtCO2 saving for ONLY £11bn ('jet zero' being £12bn for 1MtCO2 saving). We have all the tech. We have all the skills. We just need to recruit an extra 50,000 people to the cause.
#InsulateBritain have a knock out point, what are gov waiting for!
'Investing in carbon capture usage and storage' is so simple that for £1bn we 'could potentially deliver' 40MtCO2e. The proof of this is that it is working at scale all over the world. Oh, hang on, it isn't, anywhere, despite 30 years of trying. #DeedsNotWords #ClimateEmergency
This is the most dishonest inclusion in a pretty dishonest list of 'coulds'. You see if the ROI was achievable (40MtCO2e per £bn) then we would have seen it already at say 4 to 1. We haven't. Its a figment of the fossil fuel industry. Its a sop to allow the use of oil, gas, coal.
'Protecting our natural environment' is mostly "investment for flood defences" apparently. It would be a far better investment to extract more CO2 (40MtCO2e per £1bn) and slow the flooding that way, wouldn't it? Oh, but that's just a made up number, the Gov know that. ;-(
'Enhancing green finance and innovation' is a cover for opening new oil fields and coal mines, isn't it? By-the-way we have a fusion reactor already. It rises in the east and sets in the west every day. It costs us nothing to build/run. #Solar #DeedsNotWords #ClimateActionPlan
Don't be put off reading this 38 pages of the plan. 6 pages are title or 'intentionally left blank'. ;-(
I keep banging on about the need for #DeedsNotWords to address the #ClimateEmergency, but they are too barren bother to create them! #InsulateBritain
assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
Pity the government didn't start this C02 extraction bonanza earlier because then we wouldn't now be spending money with a rich US corporation to make CO2, from north sea gas. #ClimateAction
