94.01/ Week ninety-four, April 30-May 6, 2022, thread begins here.
Week 93 below.
94.02/ Health update: still no symptoms from my bout with COVID except for general irritability but it's impossible to know if it's different from my normal state. Isolation is lonely (big, if true) but my overall emotion is fear of making someone else sick. Dread is the worst.
94.03/ I see the #Mets won (this is a fun season so far, especially since I'm not the one getting hit by fastballs in the head) and the #NYR won and are ready for the playoffs. Best of all is post-#NFLDraft Sat. night when I get to see all the gifts my team gave me as a fan. #LGM
94.04/ There are some certainties in sports. (1) Offense sells tickets but defense wins championships. (2) Build with strength up the middle. And (3) the #Steelers will go for stability, patience, and family.
94.05/ So, this cool thing happened over Shabbos: my wife's new book arrived! "Women and Musical Salons in the Enlightenment by Rebecca Cypess"
It makes a great gift. Buy now, buy often!

94.06/ The joke of the #WHCD2022 night (based on how many people sent it out). It's great on paper but even better in his delivery.
94.07/ I agree with both parts of this interchange, the observation is correct and the explanation is spot on:
94.08/ I'm seeing Dukakis get called a "neoliberal" & realize I could also be sloppy with how I use "fascist" so to clarify: fascism is a worship of power for it's own sake, a reification of "might makes right." It's also why the MSM helps it along: they too crave being in power.
94.08b/ E.g. the NYT writes glowing pieces about depraved bigots, why? They're fascinated by them, moths to flame. Also they think they can get on the good side of the bullies b/c they, like Die Hard's Ellis, think they'll always be "useful."
94.09/ Maybe it was never really was "economic anxiety" but something else? (/sarcasm)
94.10/ How does the Onion always know? I mean they miss way more often than they hit in recent years, but they can be as on target as early Simpsons.
94.11/ @patdennis is right and I apologize for not being detailed in my mockery.
94.12/ Why I appreciate twitter & I actually rankle when people think it’s altogether a terrible place:
and yet, I did find this funny
94.13/ It's nice to see others who, like me, plan to stick it out on here:
(BTW: “Apartheid Clyde” is a great nickname)
Maybe we should make this our banner pic
94.14/ Five days of isolation/quarantine from COVID, asymptomatic from beginning to end, so I was able to return to shul wearing a mask. Gave a whole mess o'tzedaka & was lucky to get shelishi so I also benched gomel. Thank God for emerging from this life-threatening disease.
94.15/ I'm so glad to see that the mandatory cut the #Mets had to make was DFAing Cano. This shows they make decisions based on talent and don't fall for the sunk cost fallacy. #LGM
94.16/ He's like a Scooby-Doo villain, isn't he? He thought he had pulled one over on everyone if it weren't for those meddling kids* (* people with working souls and/or unaffected by MA*GA brain worms)
94.17/ I join in the condemnation of the most recent hate crime in my small community (see story below), especially with using Jewish symbols in the attack. My wife will be one of the speakers at the vigil to help the path to healing and justice.

94.18/ Re: the question of favorite day on Twitter
Here are some other great nominees:
1)
2)
3)
4)
94.19/ Yes. This is cool.
94.20/ Oh man, this is too perfect. Yes, NFT purchasers are absolutely the people who will hand over their wallets for inspection.
94.21/ I do enjoy Sorkin scripts, but - as Charles says in the interview below - they need a solid director to inoculate them from his ego and worst instincts.
esquire.com/entertainment/…
This is a great comment that illustrates the problem:
94.22/ It's one thing for Rand Paul to be bought and paid for by Putin, it's another thing that he doesn't even bother to hide it.
94.23/ Very important to remember:
94.24/ I'll add: the illegitimate GOP stolen SCOUS is hell-bent on tearing up Roe which is horrible in itself and it continues their assault on all legal precedent. The court showed it's corruption in Bush v Gore & completed it under Roberts.
94.25/ Planned Parenthood is fighting, we all must fight. Abortion is healthcare and healthcare is a human right. I am pro-abortion because I'm anti-forced birth.
94.26/ All those who are angry because they voted in 2020 but won't vote in 2022 because the GOP is still assaulting us, are like those who get the first vaccine but refuse the boosters.
They sound like anti-vaxxers! They're anti-voters, and that's just as stupid and deadly.
94.27/ We're all grieving because of the depredations of a corrupt, stolen, anti-Democratic, anti-women, religious hegemonic SCOTUS so emotions are raging. Appropriately so. I'm giving it 24h, though, before I start blocking the anti-voters.
94.28/ More about the anti-voters: yeah, we know you don't vote Blue except on rare occasions; we know you "punish" Dems by staying home (see: 00 10 14 16) & will do so in '22. We know. It's your *brand*
And like all brands, it's used to sell products. And it's an *identity*.
94.29/ And hey, stop calling the GOP things like "Taliban" - this is as authentically American, and Christian, as can be. This is a domestic product.
Call them Puritans (who ran witch hunts). Call this a Crusade (killing infidels). Or an Inquisition (killing heretics).
94.30/ For the people who called us chicken littles: the abject terror I felt when Trump (ym'sh) was elected, the rage I felt when the depraved Kavanaugh was confirmed, the despair I felt when Ginsburg died, are b/c I knew this day was inevitable. #SaveRoeVoteBlue22
94.31/ (From a few weeks ago), this article & research looks fascinating and important re: how news consumption contributes to differing shared factual realities
94.32/ @EladNehorai is echoing what I said in 94.29 above: don't use the horrible actions of American Christians to smear another religon.
94.33/ In honor of the five years since the last #NYR playoff game they decided to make tonight's game last a total of five years. Triple OT! So far! (It should've ended in regulation but the refs...)
94.34/ #YomHaatzmaut Sameach! Happy 74th Birthday to Israel, you don't look a day over 2000.
94.35/ This is perfect. (h/t @exadyto)
And for the pedants: yes, FDR began those programs, but they are kept in place because of the rigorous voting bloc.
94.36/ @petridishes is brilliant.
94.37/ I agree with this whole thread by @magi_jay.
(If you don't already, I recommend following her, she's really worth reading.)
94.38/ This was me. (Radio for the #Mets - I do need to work - but at night I endured the 3 OT loss.)
94.39/ Farewell and good luck to @AKinkhabwala who covered the #NFL AFC North very well over the past few years - as a working mom! - and maintained her high quality despite being a target of misogyny & bigotry. We'll miss her voice.
94.40/ In addition to celebrating #YomHaatzmaut, there's also #CincodeMayo (aka "Mexican Holiday of Repudiating the French of All People" Day).
See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_…
A war I learned about here:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Mules…
And Isru #StarWarsDay! And a song to celebrate that:
94.40b/ Here we go, piping hot from the robots to you, the CypessBlog consumer, captions for Bill Murray's SNL skit as "Nick Winters" the lounge singer and his invented lyrics for the Star Wars theme.
94.41/ Here's the @MuppetRabbi about these past two days:
94.42/ And the @MuppetRabbi about this week's parsha #Kedoshim:
94.43/ My that was a slightly exciting #Mets game.
(Sources close to the author state that he lost his danged mind seeing a hated rival cough up 7 runs in the 9th to lose in an otherwise trademark Mets-like fashion) #LGM
94.44/ #NachasAlert: My son's Torah Bowl team won the championship! He's a HS freshman and he takes after both parents in burning the candle at [counts on fingers] four ends (?) (Is that possible?).
A Threepeat for JEC, tying the 1960s Packers.

94.45/ Two articles about this week's #haftara.
1) From OU about the Israel/US disjunction:
outorah.org/p/49153
(There are too many hand-waved "explanations" but it's better than nothing)
2) Ohr Sameach's Rabbi Yehudah Spitz (who's really top notch)

94.46/ #HumbleBrag: if there's a Suburban Dad award to be given for grilling an entire Shabbas dinner in the pouring rain, I would like to nominate myself. I hope it's actually cooked, but even if not then maybe a bronze medal.
94.47/ #ChochmatNashim for #Kedoshim. No OLP or JOFA this week. Other options:

94.48/ It was gratifying to see the #NYR even the series. It's been so long since we were in the playoffs, it was a relief to see them win (even if our goalie temporarily died. He got better)
As for playoff hockey, esp. overtime, here's the master:
94.49/ I better mosey on down to finishing this week's thread (I'm so old, I call this my blog. So sue me). Have a great Shabbos everyone, stay safe! #ShabbatShalom
