A quick About Us from @MoreOllie:
The Healthy Streets Scorecard is published by a coalition of 8 campaign groups & supported/partnered by 3 more.
Our aim is to promote action to put people's health & wellbeing at the forefront of all borough's transport planning.
#HSScorecard2022
The Mayor’s Transport Strategy has 3 key targets by 2041:
1. Increase trips made by sustainable modes’ (walking, cycling, PT) from 63% to 80%
2. Everyone to undertake the daily 20 mins of active travel
3. #VisionZero for road danger on London's transport system
#HSScorecard2022
London’s boroughs control 95% of London’s roads so the measures tey implement are critical to whether the Mayor’s Transport targets will be met or not.
The Scorecard shows to what extent councils are putting in place 5 key measures (input indicators) & 4 key outcome indicators.
The #HSScorecard2022 indicators:
INPUT:
Bus priority (NEW)

Polluting vehicles (part of #CarOwnership indicator)
Car registration data was analysed to ascertain % of polluting vehicles (weighted according to how different fuel types contribute to London’s poor #airquality).

For the final three Outcome indicators:
Road Collision Casualties #RoadDanger
Sustainable modeshare
& Active Travel rates
we have had to use 2021 data due to unavailability of some data (e.g. journey stages per borough).

A final thanks from @MoreOllie & the whole coalition: @SustransLondon @LDN_LS @London_Cycling @_wearepossible @FutureTranspLon @Wheels4Well @CPRELondon @RoadPeace
Siân Berry, Camden councillor and London Assembly Member @sianberry - speaks about importance of the Scorecard, her borough of #Camden (diesel surcharging works) and asks that we all contribute to the current @tfl #ULEZ consultation: #CleanAir haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/cleanair
@AlexanderEhmann, #Richmond councillor speaks about 'stickiness of measures' - working to make the changes stay (engagement etc.) Also need to have high quality schemes, not just high number. Difference between boroughs needs to be recognised. Tweaking the indicators may help.
@PhilipGlanville, @mayorofhackney & Chair of London Councils' Transport & Environment Committee: Scorecard creates healthy competition b/w boroughs and it feels like results day when #HSScorecard is published.
Appreciates @sianberry's compliments on #Hackney's #LTNs.
.@mayorofhackney continues - something for everyone to learn. Speed of change & results are used in LAs to focus on what to do next. #CleanAir is vital, roads too dangerous #VisionZero, #ActiveTravel & greening is important to address #ClimateCrisis.
.@mayorofhackney continues: importance of colloborate between boroughs.
Highlights 15% of #SchoolStreets in LDN, 19 boroughs at 20mph default & mentions boroughs doing well.
Political ambition important, but funding for #LIP & TfL has been reduced. Need funding in #ActiveTravel.
.@mayorofhackney has plans for Hackney - 100% LTN coverage, #SchoolStreets for Secondary schools, last mile delivery hub (announced yest.), cycle parking (clear the backlog) & more - we look forward to these announcements in due course.
On to Q&As co-ordinated by @emmagriffin from @LDN_LS.
Q: bus lanes - which roads?
A: includes TLRN rds. Details in blurb & on map google.com/maps/d/u/0/vie…
Q: LTNs are 'naturally-occurring' included?
A: yes LTNs include all types, designed and natural ones (eg a river boundary)
Q: Can other metrics be included, eg #parklets?
A: Difficulty of collating data on other metrics - but welcome others to gather info.
@AlexanderEhmann suggests something about accessibilty
@mayorofhackney agrees with Alex. Perhaps canopy cover metric (a GLA data set exists)?
.@sianberry metric - road lane length & amount for parking, including drives (difficult to do!), places to sit metric, public toilet coverage as facilitates walking - could explore adding in.
@mayorofhackney free public toilets are important & #Hackney has been refurbishing these
Another suggestion c/f metrics walking/cycling/bus provision & road casualities links.
Q. Reduction in car ownership & active travel links?
@sianberry: Need to restrict car dominance esp. when boroughs don't have many car owners.
@mayorofhackney Hackney had 40% through-traffic.
@sianberry @mayorofhackney Q. on #VisionZero - high KSI stats, explain how to reduce.
A. #20mph enforcement, infrastructure is key, but data is unstable due to Covid atm.
@mayorofhackney borough boundary can end safe infra, crossings/junctions need work, speed reduction on borough rds - community needs.
@sianberry @mayorofhackney Q. How to overcome the opposition to #HealthyStreets measures
A. @sianberry combination of evidence & experience of gd change (a vision), tweak where needed. It is for good.
@mayorofhackney reiterates pt on funding. Need leadership & listening to residents.
& it's a wrap! Thank you to everyone who attended, all the people & campaign organisations who helped create the Scorecard this year, @UDGUrbanUpdate for running the event, our guest speakers: @PhilipGlanville, @sianberry & @AlexanderEhmann, & you for reading til the last tweet!
