@mariarostrublee @MonashUni @MonashPolsIR @nuclearsciweek First, how did I get involved in #nuclear? It all started with my passion for reading and love for debate, fostered by my parents. They made sure our house growing up was full of books and a TV (tuned to political debate rather than sitcoms).
@mariarostrublee @MonashUni @MonashPolsIR @nuclearsciweek I did my Ph.D. in Political Science/International Relations at @gwucolumbian - originally focusing on China. But I took a few years off and went to work for the US government, focusing on #nuclear policy, and my mind was blown by how important and interesting #nuclear was! 🤯
@mariarostrublee @MonashUni @MonashPolsIR @nuclearsciweek So I went back to @gwucolumbian to re-do my Ph.D. topic - focusing on why states exercise #nuclear restraint, with incredibly supportive women advisors, including @DeborahAvant1 - leading to my book ugapress.org/book/978082033…

On the other, we have the British legacy of #nuclearweapons tests in Australia, with disproportionate effects on #FirstNations peoples
