Btw, the increases in deportation numbers under Obama involved people who were picked up within 100 miles of the border. In previous administrations, they had mostly been bused back to Mexico without any record. Counting these as “deportations” under Obama skews the stats.
In 2009, Congress also established a bed quota for ICE, requiring them to hold an average of 34,000 people in detention every day.
The GOP made a law that we have to have 34,000 people in detention for immigration violations.
